Cardinals Take Final Game as Cubs fail to Sweep
Posted on 26 Apr 2012 by Brandyn Smith.
Recap: After winning their first series of the season, the Chicago Cubs were unable to complete the series sweep, of the arch rival St. Louis Cardinals, with a 5-1 loss Wednesday afternoon. Cubs starting pitcher Chris Volstad (0-3) had a solid six innings of work giving up six hits, three earned runs, four strike outs, but imploded in his final inning where he gave up his three earned runs....

So Far, So… meh
Posted on 25 Apr 2012 by Josh Muller.
To be perfectly honest, the Oakland Athletics lack one key component to be a perennial contending team: talent. Through the first three weeks of the season, the A’s look better than the 100-loss team most experts predicted, but are still far from being relevant. This becomes all the more evident while watching the Texas Rangers explode out of the gate to a 13-4 start with about a thousand hom...

Angels continue to lose at an alarming rate
Posted on 25 Apr 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
I know we'll all be laughing about this come September, but as of right now the Angels are hard to watch. Ervin Santana didn't give up 3 1st inning runs today against Tampa Bay, but he did give up leadoff bomb to Desmond Jennings. Santana did give up 3 more home runs, making it 10 in 4 starts, but he at least gave the team a chance to win. Oh, I forgot, the Angels offense was completely shut ...

Mariners find bats against Scherzer
Posted on 24 Apr 2012 by Brett Decker.
Last season around this time Seattle came to Detroit struggling offensively only to reverse that trend against Tigers pitching. Much like last year, the Mariners are failing to give their pitchers much run support. They're currently averaging just over 3.5 runs per game and rank 26th in the majors in team batting average at .223. Once again they are using Tigers pitching to try and right their ...

Phillies Contine To Struggle Scoring Runs
Posted on 24 Apr 2012 by Tom Bopp.
The Phillies find themselves in a curious position, an identity crisis of sorts. That may be a stretch given their stout starting pitching which could be very easily labeled their identity. However there is no denying that throughout their recent run of dominance they have also had a powerful and intimidating offense to go along with their pitching, something that made them the popular pick in ...

Pittsburgh Pirates Split Series Against Diamondbacks and Cardinals
Posted on 23 Apr 2012 by Drew Karpen.
Not much has changed for Opening Week until this point for the Pittsburgh Pirates, as they find themselves three games under .500 at 6-9 and at the bottom half of the NL Central in fourth place. The two constants for the Pirates throughout the first two weekends of the year has been their stellar pitching performance and their lack of offense. Pittsburgh has the fourth best team ERA in the ma...

Tigers Win Nightcap
Posted on 21 Apr 2012 by Jeremy Klumpp.
It was not the prettiest of wins, but the Tigers will take it. After losing a combined 20-7 in the first two games of the series the Tigers scratched their way to a 3-2 victory Saturday night. Starter Justin Verlander (2-1) threw 115 pitches over just six innings of work, but only allowed one run and four hits. After five innings, and 101 pitches it appeared that Verlander's night was over, bu...

Recap: The Chicago Cubs snapped their six game losing streak with a 6-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds Saturday. The North Siders got off to an early start with four runs in the second inning. Both Darwin Barney and Steven Clevenger each had three hits a piece. Cubs starting pitcher Paul Maholm (1-2) got his first win of the season. After going down 1-0 early, allowing three of the firs...

Phil Humber throws 21st Perfect Game in MLB history.
Posted on 21 Apr 2012 by Sean McCabe.
I woke up today and saw that the White Sox vs the Mariners was one of the two games being shown nationally this Saturday on Fox. This struck me as odd since both of these teams, for lack of a better word, stink. Neither have any superstars to speak of unless you want to lump in King Felix in Seattle. Then Phil Humber showed up and fired a perfect game. The 29 year old journey man became the 2...

Rangers Clobber Porcello, Tigers
Posted on 21 Apr 2012 by Jeremy Klumpp.
The Texas Rangers continued their hot start to the season by scoring eight runs in the first inning on their way to a 10-4 victory against the Tigers. Tigers starter Rick Porcello (1-1) allowed eight earned runs, and 10 hits before being pulled after facing three batters in the second inning. Before Saturday's game Porcello had two quality starts, and his ERA was 1.84. After this afternoon's o...

Pineda Trade Looking Like An Epic Fail
Posted on 21 Apr 2012 by Brendan Sennott.
The January blockbuster trade between the Yankees and Mariners that sent top hitting prospect Jesus Montero and righthander Hector Noesi from New York to Seattle for righties Michael Pineda and Jose Campos is looking like a huge loss for the Bombers. Pineda struggled all spring to find the power fastball he displayed last year in Seattle where he consistently threw 96 to 97 mph. He was shu...

Tigers Re-Acquire Zach Miner From Royals For Cash
Posted on 20 Apr 2012 by Jeremy Klumpp.
The Tigers will be welcoming back an old friend this weekend. In exchange for cash considerations the Kansas City Royals have traded pitcher Zach Miner to the Tigers. The move on the surface appears to have more to do with pitching issues in the farm system, and less to do with the Tigers relief pitching woes. Miner will report to Double-A Erie this weekend. The Sea Wolves have used 15 pitcher...
