The Long Ball Matters!
Posted on 20 May 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
The Mariners have dropped five in a row now heading into their afternoon match up with the Toronto Blue Jays. Seattle is sitting at 14-26 and 8.5 games behind Texas for the division lead. Lets not even mention the wild card as that is even uglier. The Blue Jays coming to town shows a prime example of why power matters in MLB. It wouldn't take much to say that the Seattle Mariners rotation and p...

Jack Wilson On The DL
Posted on 13 May 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
Just what the Mariners needed. One of the few players on this team who is hitting over .250 SS Jack Wilson is on the 15 day DL with what looks to be a strained hammy. Seattle has called up Matt (no I didn't play for the Raiders) Tuiasosopo from Tacoma to replace him in the lineup. By the way the Mariners lots last night to the Orioles 5-2. Have a good one! Zzzzzzzz

Well that was interesting. Ken Griffey Jr. was accused by a couple of his teammates (who shall remain anonymous) of being asleep in the club house while the Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu was looking for a pinch hitter Tuesday night! Both Wakamatsu and Griffey have denied this publicly, but if you read between the lines perhaps nap time should be scheduled for a different part of the day. I don...

The Ax Falls On Cockrell!
Posted on 10 May 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
The following article is courtesy of TSN.ca I will just mention that in my own opinion it's unfortunate when any coach or manager loses their job, however in this case I don't know if the Seattle Mariners had much of a choice in firing hitting coach Alan Cockrell and replacing him with their AAA hitting coach Alonzo Powell. The team is hitting .225 and has only managed 12 home runs this season ...

This Is Getting Ugly
Posted on 8 May 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
The Mariners have now dropped seven in a row after another 8-0 loss this time at the hands of the Angels. The M's had just come off of back to back sweeps. Getting rolled up by the Rangers and Rays respectively. Amazingly at 11-18 Seattle is still only 4.5 games out of the division lead behind the aforementioned Texas Rangers. The offense is clearly the problem with this team and Mario Mendoza ...

Are The Hotel Mattresses Lumpy?
Posted on 27 Apr 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
The last time I wrote the blog the Seattle Mariners had just swept Baltimore and had moved into a tie atop the AL West. Four days later things have changed. The Mariners are now 3 games back of the A's in the division and are now 2 games under .500. However many things have stayed the same. Ichiro and Gutierrez continue to lead this team offensively as the only two batters on the squad that are...

M’s Teach Pitching 101
Posted on 22 Apr 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
Four runs against in their three game set against the Baltimore Orioles paved the way to a sweep for the Seattle Mariners. Doug Fister, and Jason Vargas both went seven innings giving up one earned run each in the first two games of the series resulting in 8-2 and 3-1 victory's respectively. follow that up with Felix Hernandez scattering 9 hits over a complete game 4-1 win over Baltimore last n...

Cliff Lee wins Appeal.
Posted on 20 Apr 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
Cliff Lee has won his appeal, with MLB overturning his 5 game suspension and fine dating back to March 15 in a spring training game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Lee threw a pitch over the head of the Dbacks Chris Snyder, after Snyder had earlier crashed into Lee who was covering the plate. So due to the injuries Lee had suffered in the play and the recovery time required. Lee will not be f...

Mariners start season with good first week
Posted on 13 Apr 2009 by Jeff Johnson.
The Mariners completed a 3 game sweep of the A’s and are off to a good start for the season. The M’s have traditionally not done well against Oakland, especially in Oakland, so you have to feel good about the sweep and the performances put out by the players so far this season. Defensively they have been pretty solid with only 2 errors (although Johjima likely should have had one o...
