Summer Recap
Posted on 1 Sep 2009 by Dan Caristo.
Before I comment about the Ducks off-season moves, I'd like to apologize for not updating my blog throughout the summer. I spent the summer traveling and was unable to consistently get to a computer. But I'm back now and ready to get the season started! After the Ducks lost to the Wings in May, I wondered what GM Bob Murray had planned for the summer. I also wondered if Teemu Selann...

Bring on the Wings!

The second round of the playoffs begin tonight and the Ducks are still a part of the party. They were able to knock off the current Presidents Trophy winners, but their biggest challenge will begin tomorrow night in Detroit. Although the Sharks finished with the most points during the regular season, the Ducks will play the best team in the league. The main reason being that their top players...

Ducks Shock the Sharks
Posted on 21 Apr 2009 by Dan Caristo.
The general consensus heading in to this series was that the Ducks were going to give the Sharks a tough challenge for a first round opponent. What nobody would have expected was that Anaheim would be heading home with a 2-0 series lead. Even Jonas Hiller was a little taken back after game 2, saying “We knew we could play well… But to come into the rink of the best team in the lea...

Ducks Playoff Preview
Posted on 16 Apr 2009 by Dan Caristo.
Tonights game between Anaheim and San Jose will mark the first time in NHL history that two California based teams will meet in the playoffs. Finishing 26 points apart in the standings and going 2-4 in the season series, the Ducks are coming in as huge underdogs against the Sharks. Both teams are big and play physical, which means that this series will most likely be one of the more physical on...

Ducks Clinch a Playoff Spot
Posted on 11 Apr 2009 by Dan Caristo.
The Ducks clinched the playoffs last night in a shootout win versus the Stars. It was a bittersweet end of regulation when the Ducks gave up a late equalizing goal, but only needed a single point to clinch. After the trade deadline all the “experts” predicted Anaheim to quickly drop out of the playoff race and start the rebuilding phase. The Ducks did the opposite, going 10-2 down ...

Thanks MacT

Just when it looked like the Ducks were about to blow a three goal lead late in the third, Oilers coach Craig MacTavish made a gutsy move that backfired, costing his team the game and possibly the season. To succeed you need your leaders to take control, and Tuesday night in Edmonton was an example of that. Captain Scott Niedermayer, who had a goal and two assists, led the Ducks to their se...

Stayin’ Alive

The Ducks loss to San Jose on Sunday was their fourth in five games, and it looked like the season might have been over. As if the loss wasn't hard enough to handle, the only goal of the game came from former teammate Travis Moen. They could have easily called it quits for the year, and nobody would have blamed them. After being one of the leagues major sellers at the deadline, nobody expe...

Back in the Mix

Last nights win against the Canucks was a big one, to say the least. Although they gave up a point to Vancouver (who are pretty well set up for a playoff spot), the Ducks needed the two points. Along with the win, the Ducks also saw a few players give a full sixty minute effort and produced, which has been a rarity as of late. The newest Ducks (Nokelainen, Whitney, and Christensen) were involv...

Trade Deadline Reaction
Posted on 9 Mar 2009 by Dan Caristo.
It's been almost a week since the trade deadline, and I'm still frustrated with the moves Bob Murray made. At the end of the day I was angry, and confused to where the Ducks stood in the Western Conference. I decided to calm down and think logically about the moves that were made. Before I break it down, here is a list of who is in, and who is out. IN: Ryan Whitney, Petteri Nokelaine...
