Clowe Plays Puck from Bench
Posted on 6 Apr 2012 by Eric Cooney.
I've seen a lot of questionable, dirty, or shocking plays in my time as a hockey fan. Dirty hits, intentional slashes, diving, the list goes on and on. However, I've never seen anything quite like what Ryane Clowe of the San Jose Sharks showed us on Thursday night. (more…)

Fast Starts Crucial for Kings
Posted on 30 Mar 2012 by Eric Cooney.
The Pacific Division is jam-packed right now. Phoenix, Dallas, San Jose, and Los Angeles are all within a point of each other. Depending on the last 4-5 games, each team has a chance to win the division or miss the playoffs. So, understandably it's nervous times for Kings fans. (more…)

Tough Road Ahead
Posted on 6 Mar 2012 by Eric Cooney.
The Kings have been getting a bit of luck lately. Both Phoenix and San Jose have endured a spate of losses recently, helping out the Kings' playoff hopes. The Kings have been doing their share as well, winning 3 of 4 since the arrival of Jeff Carter. However, the Kings do not have an easy schedule down the stretch and it will take a few different things coming together (in my opinion) for...

Get Carter
Posted on 23 Feb 2012 by Eric Cooney.
Well, there you have it. The big move every Kings fan and their mother has been clamoring for since this ship started to go down a few weeks ago. The Kings swap Jack Johnson (the humanity!) and a 1st Round Pick (ugh), for sniper and Mike Richards drinking buddy Jeff Carter. Carter was acquired by the Blue Jackets this summer in exchange for Jakub Voracek, a 1st rounder and a 3rd rounder. ...

The Los Angeles Kings and a Miracle
Posted on 21 Feb 2012 by Sande Charles.
The phrase, “ the Kings need a miracle” is an understatement. Lately the level of play has been less than mediocre and certainly not playoff material. I think I speak for all Kings fans when I say I am emotionally drained from this rollercoaster of a season. Of course there has been the occasional glimmer of hope where I get butterflies in my stomach and think, “this is our year!R...

Kings Need Change
Posted on 19 Feb 2012 by Eric Cooney.
Lombardi said he was angry he had to fire coach Terry Murray. It was a direct message to the players that they were responsible for the poor play. It was a psychological coaching change and it should have sparked something in the players to up their efforts. For a few games it did. Darryl Sutter started out with points in 13 of 14 games. However, the scoring is in a massive slump and ...

Don’t Mess With a Mascot
Posted on 16 Feb 2012 by Eric Cooney.
So earlier this morning I made a terrible mistake. I poked the bear, er, lion. I made a joke about the Los Angeles Kings' beloved mascot, Bailey. However, Bailey's pimp-hand is strong in Kings' nation and so I must make amends. To catch you up, here's what happened on twitter: (more…)

Some Kings “What Ifs?”
Posted on 15 Feb 2012 by Eric Cooney.
So a few weeks ago I posted a blog about how the Kings had problems finishing in regulation, relating the problem to A) scoring woes and B) their past history of overtime losses in the playoffs. For it, I was called “desperate and nerdy” and a “bad journalist” (I wish) and told it was “poor writing.” Since then, the Kings have only gone to OT 2 more times...

Kings Lucky Break
Posted on 2 Feb 2012 by Eric Cooney.
Just reading the summary of last night's Kings vs. Blue Jackets game you could tell that something special happened. Doughty scores the game winner with less than a second remaining in order to save his team from overtime?! Incredible. As it turns out, it may have been even more incredible than that. upon viewing the replay, it appears the game clock froze for a second and a half, which...

Possible Kings Trade Targets
Posted on 1 Feb 2012 by Eric Cooney.
Let's be honest, as Kings fans we all want to be buyers at the deadline, and not Fredrik Modin/Jeff Halpern buyers. We want to be big time buyers. Like, what-we-all-expected-Dustin-Penner-to-be buyers. We all know the Kings could use some offense, yet it's not always so easy to tell what Lombardi is going to do when it comes to acquiring players. However, if you twisted my arm I'd wager...

Kings Pending UFAs
Posted on 24 Jan 2012 by Eric Cooney.
The trade deadline is over a month away but trade talk is starting to heat up. Sellers like the Carolina Hurricanes have been moving pieces already, including former King Alexei Ponikarovsky, who is now a Devil. Barring some kind of epic meltdown, the Kings will most likely be buyers come the trade deadline. Later this week I'll take a look at the players, or type of player, the Kings mig...

Overtime Kings?
Posted on 18 Jan 2012 by Eric Cooney.
Things seem to be pretty good under Darryl Sutter here in Los Angeles. The Kings have picked up points in 13 of 14 games so far. Goal scoring is up and the Kings are a more exciting team to watch. The players seem to have found their fervor for winning again. However, there are some things about the Kings record under Sutter that give pause for concern. (more…)
