The Leafs This Week
Posted on 27 Oct 2011 by Ben Fisher.
What Happened The week could have gone a whole lot worse for the Leafs (5-2-1), who escaped much of a tough road stretch and some key injuries with a 2-2 mark and a still-impressive over-all record as they get some of their charges back. It certainly helped to cap off the home stand with a shootout victory over the Jets, making losses to Boston and Philadelphia more tolerable. Also serving as c...

The Turris Saga: Classic Case of Agents Being Agents
Posted on 27 Oct 2011 by Corey Krakower.
Earlier this afternoon, Pierre LeBrun of ESPN shed some light on the Kyle Turris holdout in Phoenix. His article confirms that Kyle Turris has requested a trade out of Phoenix, while also confirming GM Don Maloney's stance that his rights will not be dealt. Turris is a former 1st round draft pick and is currently a restricted free agent. If he does not sign a contract by December 1, he will not...

Expect Criticism
Posted on 27 Oct 2011 by Eric Cooney.
Jonathan Quick is expected to be back in-between the pipes for the Kings tonight in Dallas. Terry Murray received a lot of grief for his decision to play Bernier in place of Quick against New Jersey, breaking up Quick's three game shutout streak. The Kings were shutout in the contest by a score of 3-0, but Bernier is not totally to blame for the loss. Is Murray to blame? (more…)

Please Send Sean Couturier Back to Juniors
Posted on 27 Oct 2011 by Joshua Bartle.
Attention Philadelphia Flyers, please please PLEASE send Sean Couturier back to juniors. Do not let him play in his 10th NHL game tonight, and leave yourselves the clock ticking on his contract, and free agency. I do not disagree with Paul Holmgren and Peter Laviolette that Sean Couturier was impressive in pre-season, playing mostly a defensive role, but looked very good none the less. However...

Posted on 26 Oct 2011 by Corey Krakower.
You know what they say – HOPE FOR THE BEST, PLAN FOR THE WORST. With his team off to the worst start in recent memory, especially on home ice, you have to think that Jacques Martin's days as the Head Coach of the Montreal Canadiens are numbered. In a recent interview, Martin claimed that he is not bothered by rumors, nor does he even hear about them. In fact, in a recent interview, Martin...

Too Close in Carolina
Posted on 25 Oct 2011 by Mika Oehling.
It was deja vu for the Ottawa Senators, but this time, they weren't on the good side of the fence. After coming back from behind to take down Columbus in the last seconds of the game on Saturday night, Carolina took Ottawa to task by evening up the score in the last few minutes of the third and almost rallied back for a win. It was a close one, right down to the wire, with a shoot out victory f...

$ports v$ Ecomony – Dollar$ & $ense
Posted on 24 Oct 2011 by Christopher Rowe.
Somewhere between the latest incarnation of SONY Playstation and Star Trek’s Holodeck could be the salvation of our modern economic woes. Trillions and trillions of dollars are spent on the sports industry. $300 million dollar player contracts, multi-billion dollar palaces, billions of public dollars spent to attract and then lose relocated franchises, bidding on Super Bowls to boost the loca...

For Better or For Worse?
Posted on 23 Oct 2011 by Matt Preston.
History can be fickle. For a subject that should be completely factual, history is littered with opinion that can tell the same story in a variety of different ways. Whenever the San Jose Sharks are in town, as they were on Saturday night, handing the Boston Bruins yet another loss this young season, the game itself has always taken a backseat to the historical revisionism of the Joe Thornton T...

Posted on 23 Oct 2011 by Mika Oehling.
Ottawa's on a high today as they beat out the Columbus Blue Jackets last night at Scotiabank place in a game that kept the fans on the edge of their seats and literally standing in the dying seconds of the third period. Two late goals, just seconds apart, allowed the Ottawa Senators to not only rally back to tie the score, but also clinch the win in a breathless ending to what started out as a ...
