Can you feel the (March) Madness???
Posted on 9 Mar 2012 by Mark Cook.
As we rapidly approach The 2012 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. Here are the teams that I believe will make the most “noise” in the next couple of weeks. Favorites to WIN it all: 1. Kentucky – Anthony Davis is a “beast” in the paint and with the clutch play of Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Kentucky is one of the “best” teams in college basketball today alo...

VA Tech vs. Wake Forest–In the Groove
Posted on 17 Oct 2011 by Frank Sullivan.
#19 Virginia Tech traveled to Winston-Salem, North Carolina Saturday night to face the 4-1 Demon Deacons of Wake Forest. After the Hokies fell down ten to nothing mid way through the first quarter things were starting to look bleak. The offense wasn't in rhythm, quarterback Logan Thomas was late and inaccurate with his passes, and the banged up defense got beat on a 79-yard bomb. The offe...

A Hokie Conference
Posted on 6 Sep 2011 by Frank Sullivan.
The conference will bounce back next year…The teams are too talented, the recruiting base too deep, and the coaches are too smart; it’s only a matter of time before the ACC is back… Uh, how sure are we of this? Here’s a list of the teams in the ACC: Boston College, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, Maryland, North Carolina, Miami, Virginia, Wake Forrest. Waiting...

Breaking News: Maryland’s Gary Williams to Retire
Posted on 5 May 2011 by Justin Welton.
Gary Williams confirmed on the Scott Van Pelt show on ESPN that he will be retiring. Williams posted a 452-242 record as a head coach at Maryland. His career record is 668-380. Williams is third in career victories in the ACC behind Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski and North Carolina’s Dean Smith. Williams was a fantastic coach that always had Maryland prepared every single season regardless of the t...

Hokies’ Future Out of Their Hands
Posted on 12 Mar 2011 by Logan Cecchine.
After a loss this afternoon to Duke in the ACC semi-finals, the Hokies are headed back to Blacksburg to await the selection committee's decision. The Hokies followed a win against Duke with 2 straight losses to BC and Clemson. The losses pushed the potential #9 seeded Hokies back to the bubble and into the projected “last 4 in” category. Tech looked impressive against Georgia ...

Hokies Look to Feed off Energetic Crowd for ESPN Gameday
Posted on 26 Feb 2011 by Logan Cecchine.
The Duke Blue Devils, recently gained their #1 ranking back, look to avoid the trending #1 defeats on the road this season. They will have their hands full, and might want to invest in some earplugs. As Digger Phelps inspired the multiple thousands of students that turned out for College Gameday, before the show even went on air, the students were proving why they were chosen for the prime ...

The third wheel
Posted on 23 Jan 2011 by Chris Girandola.
He isn't flashy. He's not particularly athletic. He doesn't take it to the rack with a mission to dunk on someone. He just gets the job done in a workmanlike fashion. As much as that description sounds like words directed towards Jon Scheyer of last year's championship squad, it's actually intended for Ryan Kelly this season. Sure, I, like many others, questioned how and why the second-year for...

GEORGIA TECH FAILS TO SHOW UP IN SECOND HALF AGAIN
Posted on 14 Jan 2011 by Mark Anthony Williams.
Georgia Tech has developed a disturbing pattern. Once they walk off the floor for halftime, they figuratively do not come back for the second half. For the fourth time in their last six games, GA Tech has just gone through the motions in the second half losing all four (Sienna, Charlotte, BC, Clemson) while being outscored by almost 13 points on average in the second half.  GA Tech (7-8, 0...

Leafs Nation: This is the new plan?!?
Posted on 20 Dec 2010 by Mike De Petrillo.
Brett Lebda is playing LW tonight and Nazem Kadri continues to be a healthy scratch. In what bizarre edition of reality does this scenario even remotely make sense? Seriously? Brett Lebda. Makes sense that the under-achieving defenseman that is incapable of cracking the blue line when all Leafs defensemen are healthy is now taking NHL playing time away from the organization’s top prospec...

Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer Wins Paterno Award
Posted on 20 Dec 2010 by Logan Cecchine.
Head Coach Frank Beamer has won the Coach of the Year Award. He led the Hokies to a 10-2 regular season, and an ACC Championship. The Hokies look to win 12 games and a BCS Bowl on January 3rd against Stanford. The Hokies' graduation rate was 79 in the latest class. With Jayron Hosley's All-American status, Tyrod Taylor's ACC Player of the Year Title, the team's ACC crown, and now Beamer's...

Leafs Nation: Game Night
Posted on 11 Dec 2010 by Mike De Petrillo.
Despite a couple of poor efforts against Pittsburgh and Philadelphia this week, the Leafs stand poised to take 3 of 5 games from Eastern Conference front-runners after a tough stretch of schedule. With Wafflegate in the rearview mirror, strong efforts from top forwards like Phil Kessel and Kris Versteeg will go a long way towards a potentially momentum turning victory of sorts; anything these d...

Leafs Nation: Game Night
Posted on 2 Dec 2010 by Mike De Petrillo.
Here we are on Leafs game night, welcoming the equally woeful Edmonton Oilers to town tonight for an all Canadian match-up. Both teams are sitting at 20 points for the year, with the Oilers accruing one more loss than our beloved blue and white. The Leafs are 8-11-4 this season, good for a share of 3rd last in the NHL. I guess Leafs Nation can consider that an improvement over last yearâ€...
