Pujols gets #1, while Wilson’s pitches like one
Posted on 6 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
28 games, 111 at bats before Albert Pujols finally hit his first home run as an Angel. Glad that drama is over. Do you think we'll have to read about how many abs it takes before he hits his 2nd? I did love his teammates reaction after he hit his 4th inning home run. Nobody, except Mike Trout, who scored ahead of him, was in the dugout when Pujols arrived. It was a funny scene. You can tell ho...

Angels either throw blanks or draw them
Posted on 5 May 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
At first I wanted to be mad at Ervin Santana. Right after giving up an RBI single to Yunel Escobar, Santana, on his very next pitch, gave up a home run to Jose Bautista. 3-0 Jays and game over. I controlled myself though, figuring that maybe it's not all his fault. Then I heard a stat that is mind-blowing. In Santana's last 5 starts, the Angels have gotten him zero runs. Yes, in every start b...

When In Rome, Mr. Pujols
Posted on 30 Apr 2012 by Steven Keys.
Change is good, so they say. And ya’ know who likes change? Marketing people like change, so do wet babies, unhappy workers, anyone living near a skateboarder, panhandlers and free agents. That's about it. When Prince Fielder and Albert Pujols made the big change this off-season it wasn’t because they were unhappy campers. Quite the contrary. Both were much loved and rather cozy in their ...

Searching for answers, Angels shake up roster (They still lost to Cleveland)
Posted on 27 Apr 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
The Angels finally solved one of their outfield problems when they released Bobby Abreu today. It's an inglorious ending for a guy who gave the Angels fans many a rush with his clutch hitting, and stolen bases. He's not retiring, so he'll be picked up quickly. I was told the Halos recalled Mike Trout, who his hitting better than .400 in SLC. If that is true about Trout, I do have some questi...

Jordan Rules (NOT!)
Posted on 27 Apr 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
Told you so. After the Angels were eliminated last year I said they need to go after Jonathan Papelbon or Heath Bell (Who stinks right now in Miami). I am glad they signed Albert Pujols, but most of the Halos problems were in the bullpen. They still are. It took Jordan Walden all of two batters to lose the finale in Tampa Bay on Thursday. A fastball right down the middle to a fastball hitter. ...

Angels continue to lose at an alarming rate
Posted on 25 Apr 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
I know we'll all be laughing about this come September, but as of right now the Angels are hard to watch. Ervin Santana didn't give up 3 1st inning runs today against Tampa Bay, but he did give up leadoff bomb to Desmond Jennings. Santana did give up 3 more home runs, making it 10 in 4 starts, but he at least gave the team a chance to win. Oh, I forgot, the Angels offense was completely shut ...

Angels have to holding in pen-t up anger as they continue to struggle
Posted on 19 Apr 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
It been 12 games, but the Angels problems are out there to be seen by all. Albert Pujols is pressing. I am sure he is hearing from everyone that he has not his a home run. He's still getting on base, and the long balls will come. If there is one guy not to work out, it's #5 at 1st. The Angels bullpen is atrocious. Say what you will about me ragging on Kevin Jepsen, but the man should not be wo...

Angels headed home after being tripped up on the road
Posted on 16 Apr 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
Time to come home. I am sure the Angels will be happy to be off the road. They should have gone 4-2 on the 6 game trip that took them to Minnesota and New York. Instead, they went 2-4, and are looking up at the all the teams in the West. The Halos gave up 34 runs in the 6 games, while scoring 31, so I guess a 2-4 was about right. That CJ Wilson sure can pitch. He had never won a game against th...

Swept, A Sweep, and Heading for Home
Posted on 12 Apr 2012 by Stephanie Geosits.
After a fairly atrocious start in which the Yankees were swept by the Rays in a three-game set in Tampa, they rebounded by returning the favor to Buck Showalter's Orioles. With an even .500 record, New York returns to the Bronx for the 2012 home opener on Friday. The usual pomp and circumstance will be on tap, and Jorge Posada will have the honor of throwing out the first pitch. Hiroki Kuroda...

Offense is fine, but the Angels need to bulldoze the bullpen
Posted on 12 Apr 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
Go out and buy a new car. Make sure to get all the inside trimmings. Money is no problem as you customize your new ride so it looks like the best thing on wheels. One final thing: Make sure you put the bald tires from your beat up old jalopy on it. That is the state of the Angels roster. The team scored 14 runs in two days against a rebuilding Minnesota Twins team, only to watch their bullpen c...

After being Royally beat down, the Angels got back on target in Minnesota
Posted on 10 Apr 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
The Angels were picked by just about everyone to not only get to the Series, but to win it. Everyone associated in baseball is aware of that fact. I tell you that because you should get ready for every team to be at their best when they play the Halos. On any normal day, the Angels would have raked Luke Hochevar and Jonathan Sanchez, but Kansas City guys got up for the playing the paper champio...

Albert who? The rest of the Angels prove to a royal pain in the A** to Kansas City
Posted on 7 Apr 2012 by Bill Mahoney.
Spring training stats mean absolutely nothing. Coming in tonight's season opener, Jered Weaver had a spring ERA of nearly 6. Bruce Chen's spring ERA was close to 10. What did those 2 do? They combined to throw 14 scoreless innings, while striking out 14. The Angels vaunted offense was completely shut down by Chen, who gave up just 3 hits in 6 innings. Halos came close to pushing over a run in ...
