Sturm, Healing Kings, and More
Posted on 7 Dec 2010 by Eric Cooney.
On Sturm… Last week we almost saw the Kings make a swap with the Bruins for Marco Sturm. The deal was nixed for vague reasons, but the assumption is that Sturm would not be ready nearly as soon as the Kings expected. Exactly what the sticking point was will likely remain a mystery. Since the trade didn't go through, the Kings are afforded an unlikely look at the situation which coul...

Although a team must perform as a whole, I'd like to break down expectations for each player this coming season. Pittsburgh was up to there old tricks in Game 3 as Crosby and Guerin both had goals and assists in their 4-2 win over the Senators at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa. Crosby now has 7 points in the series and is well on his way to a possible Conn Smythe should Pittsburgh advance that far. Penguins not so great heading into the playoffs
Posted on 11 Apr 2010 by Amit Mann.
With Pittsburgh finishing in fourth place they will welcome the Ottawa Senators into Mellon Arena for Game 1 on Wednesday or Thursday. In the last game of the season against the Islanders, Sidney Crosby collected two goals to tie Steven Stamkos with 51 for the year, making him a co-owner of the Maurice Richard Trophy for the first time in his career. It’s a bitter win for Crosby as Stamkos’...

Pittsburgh stronger than ever?

Alexei Ponikarovsky made his debut with the Penguins Saturday and looked solid while doing it. He scored the sixth and final goal in Pittsburgh's 6-3 win over Dallas and assisted on Evgeni Malkin's goal Sunday against Boston. The former Leaf appeared to cut his arm while blocking a shot from a Boston defenceman but despite what Evanka Osmak thinks, he did return to that game. Pony has been able...

The Penguins outshot the Rangers 55-16, dominating the game from start to finish. Marc-Andre Fleury started the game but did not finish it after giving up four goals on 10 shots, leaving his team trailing 4-2 in the second period. His counterpart in Henrik Lun...

Penguins land Ponikarovsky
Posted on 3 Mar 2010 by Amit Mann.
The Pens have continued bulking up for the playoffs as they acquired forward Alexei Ponikarovsky from the Toronto Maple Leafs for defenseman Martin Skoula and prospect Luca Caputi. In Ponikarovsky the Penguins are getting a strong forward around the boards that can grind with the best of them. He currently sits with 19 goals and 22 assists in 61 games and is on pace to set a new career high in ...

Here we go again…
Posted on 1 Oct 2009 by Mike Crupi.
The NHL season finally starts tonight with the league's two most historic franchises facing off. Tonight the speculation will end to some extent. Both the Canadiens and Leafs have undergone some serious changes this off-season and both feel confident stepping into this first game of the year. Toronto has undergone an infusion on defense with the additions of Komisarek and Beauchemin (both...
