Yanks Back in the Hunt
Posted on 6 Jun 2012 by Stephanie Geosits.
It's hard to believe it, but the Yankees are just half a game out of first in the AL East. After beating Tampa, courtesy of another strong performance by Ivan Nova, the Bombers find themselves trailing only the Orioles. That's right – Baltimore. The Rays are hanging in as a close third, and the Jays are just 2.5 games behind the leaders. Boston is in last – four games back. How did ...

No Mo, but Andy’s Handy
Posted on 11 May 2012 by Stephanie Geosits.
First off, apologies for being on hiatus but it's not like we missed much – the Yankees are a second-to last place team (thank you, Red Sox!). Seriously, though…without further ado, uninterrupted coverage of the 2012 season commences NOW! Mo tore his ACL shagging flyballs during BP in Kansas City. Let's face it folks, that's probably the only way the Royals could have taken him out,...

2011 American League Preview
Posted on 14 Mar 2011 by Michael Waterloo.
With March Madness in full effect and the NHL and NBA playoffs approaching us, the fact that baseball is around the corner seems to be an afterthought to many, especially in Pittsburgh. As the boys of summer prepare for another 162-game season, there are many questions surrounding each team around the league. Will the Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies be able to live up to the presea...

Don’t hold your breath, Yankees fans
Posted on 3 Mar 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
Opening Day sits just on the other side of March. The Yankees have been in Tampa for a few weeks already, but really, not a lot is clear. A.J. Burnett threw a couple of innings yesterday. Freddy Garcia will pitch against the Rays today. As usual, all eyes are on Joba, but Phil Hughes is fine, and CC is skinny. Andy Pettitte is retired and the rotation is still up in the air. Behind the plate,...

Jeter Jitters
Posted on 24 Nov 2010 by Stephanie Geosits.
So it's come to this – that awkward point in a relationship when you have to decide if you really will be together forever or try to amicably extricate your lives after more than a decade of history. Let's not kid ourselves. It hurts, AND it's messy. Hopefully for the Yankees and Jeter, it doesn't drag out. In all honesty, they need each other. Derek Jeter can only retain his title of Kin...

Bombers Bummed
Posted on 25 Oct 2010 by Stephanie Geosits.
The Yankees saw their dreams of a repeat World Championship go down the tubes on Friday thanks to poor pitching and a sputtering offense, and some would add, micromanagement by Joe Girardi. Texas playing like a team on fire didn't help, either. Today the Bombers announced that pitching coach Dave Eiland was let go. The claim was that it had nothing to do with the post-season performance, and sp...

Yanks Will Try To Make Hunter the Hunted
Posted on 19 Oct 2010 by Patrick Blakeslee.
I hate the fact that Cliff Lee is so darn humble. . .so damn likeable. I wish he would run his mouth like Curt Schilling used to (and probably still does) or say stupid things like ex-Braves pitcher John Rocker often did so I had a reason to hate him other than the fact that he made Yankee hitters look like that were batting blindfolded. But no, he just goes out and pitches. Pitches good. ...

Lee’s Masterpiece Gives Texas Series Lead
Posted on 19 Oct 2010 by George Kouvalis.
Dominance. Probably all that needs to be said about Game 3 of the ALCS in New York. Cliff Lee was just that damn good. Did we mention he is now 7-0 in the post season with an ERA in those games at 1.31. In Game 3, Lee was once again brilliant with the tag line of 8IP, 2 hits, 0 ER, 1 BB and 13 K's in the Bronx. Winning is one thing, doing it in Broadway style in New York is another....

Shifting the Series to the Bronx
Posted on 18 Oct 2010 by George Kouvalis.
The Texas Rangers probably should be up two games to none in the ALCS going to New York but the let that opportunity slip away in Game 1. Having said that, the Rangers should be happy going back with a split, seeing the Yankees two best starters while not having Cliff Lee pitch yet now makes it a best of five affair. Game 2 of the series saw a very similar script to game one, except the major...

Yanks Won’t Fall Off the Cliff
Posted on 17 Oct 2010 by Patrick Blakeslee.
One of best things about being a Yankee fan is the playoff season. For one, we’re usually in the playoffs every year so we can extend the support of our team and secondly, the situation usually places the Yankees and their fans in an “us against the world” situation. The rule of thumb for baseball fans seems to be “if my team can’t win it, root against the Yankees.” I bring th...

Big Man Ready to Duel in Arlington
Posted on 15 Oct 2010 by Stephanie Geosits.
There's no one bigger than CC Sabathia and the Yankees are hoping that he will be large and in charge Friday night in Texas in the ALCS opener. I don't want to say that they *need* this game, but they can surely use the win. The Rangers will have to bite the bullet and send C.J. Wilson to the mound to face the Bombers' big man, since the Rays took them to five games. Texas ace Cliff Lee will ta...

Wild (Card) Week Ahead for the Yankees
Posted on 5 Oct 2010 by Stephanie Geosits.
New York heads to Minnesota to begin ALDS play on Wednesday as the AL East's wild card selection, despite having the second best record in the league. Such is the structure of MLB playoffs these days. Chaos and rumors have already ensued about the three-man rotation Joe Girardi has announced, but one thing is for sure – CC Sabathia is the Yankees' number one starter. He'll get the ball ag...
