On Sturm… Last week we almost saw the Kings make a swap with the Bruins for Marco Sturm. The deal was nixed for vague reasons, but the assumption is that Sturm would not be ready nearly as soon as the Kings expected. Exactly what the sticking point was will likely remain a mystery. Since the trade didn't go through, the Kings are afforded an unlikely look at the situation which coul...

The Kings were arguably the hottest team to start the season, storming out to a 12-3-0 record and looking like a team that took a step toward being elite. Yet, after winning their first 4 games in November, the Kings have lost 6 of 7 and have slipped out of the top-8 in the West. Their once sterling record is now a decent 13-9-0. The Kings currently sit 3rd in the Pacific Division. (mo...

The Kings escaped using the shootout parachute device on Saturday night against the Boston Bruins. After taking a 3 goal lead, the Kings relaxed and let the Bruins cruise back into the game. After managing to survive regulation and overtime, Michal Handzus finished a nail-biter of a shootout off with a goal for the win. (more…)

The Sharks broke the Kings 6 game winning streak, winning 6-3 at the Shark Tank on Monday amid cries of “Beat L.A.!” a la the Boston Celtics in their attempt to beat the Lakers this past year. The Kings struggled in all areas they usually excel at and the talented Sharks took advantage of it. (more…)

So, the Kings are playing very well. They're winning games. They currently sit 1st in the Western Conference and 1st in the Pacific Division with a 2 point lead on Anaheim with 4 games in hand. They lead Phoenix, 3rd in the Pacific Division by 5 points with 2 games in hand. However, there are still 67 games left… (more…)

When you go to a hockey game, you hope and pray for a game like the Kings played tonight. Chippy play, 4 fights, and a 3-1 victory over a division rival. The energy at this game was palpable and the Kings did not disappoint in front of a packed Staples Center crowd. Even the atmosphere after the game in front of Staples Center was raucous. (more…)

The Kings head into Dallas tonight with a record of 6-3-0. Dallas sits right behind them at 5-3-0, second place in the Pacific Division. Both teams have scored 26 goals and allowed 22, the Kings in 9 games and the Stars in 8. (more…)

It was a seesaw night for the Kings and ‘Canes, trading leads all night. However, the Kings proved they had a little more in the tank and brought home the win. It wasn't pretty but it counts. (more…)

The Kings dropped the back end of their back-to-back on Sunday night to the Calgary Flames, 3-1. Similar to their season opener vs. Vancouver, the Kings didn't relent a goal until halfway through the 2nd period. The problem however, was that the Kings didn't manage to score until well into the 3rd period. It was a fairly tight game but opportunistic scoring by the Flames sunk the Kings. ...

The newly branded Scotiabank Saddledome was rocking as the Calgary Flames won their home opener 3-1 over the Los Angeles Kings. The biggest thing for the Flames was they played with a much greater intensity and sense of urgency in front of the sold out home crowd. The first period did not have too much in the way of scoring chances for either side but was played at a solid pace. Both Miikka Kip...

It's been a long 147 days since May 14, 2010. B's fans know what happened that night. Enough said so let's turn the page. With the Bruins starting their season tomorrow at noon I figured I'd throw out the ten games I'm most looking forward to going to this year. October 9/10, 2010 both against the Phoenix Coyotes – OK, so I'm not actually going to these games but I can't wait for the seas...

The Kings faced off against a pretty strong Avs squad (at least by pre-season standards) and managed to shrug off a slow start to grab the comeback win. The Avalanche tallied in under 3 minutes, then again early in the 2nd to pull ahead by 2 goals. However, the Kings persistence paid off, netting them the last 4 goals in a row. (more…)
