Arizona Continues Pitching Success
Posted on 20 May 2011 by Matthew Hesse.
The Arizona Diamondbacks begin Interleague Play with 5 wins over their last 6 games - thanks largely to pitching. After the D'Backs got beat up on Monday by the Padres 8-4, Arizona surged ahead to get 3 straight wins all without any pitching from stud Ian Kennedy. Armando Galarraga struggled again Monday allowing 8 earned runs. The Diamondbacks have since designated him for assignment an...

Swept Under the Mets
Posted on 25 Apr 2011 by Josh Robbins.
The Arizona Diamondbacks were swept in a three-game weekend series to the New York Mets dropping the finale, 8-4. Armando Galarraga (3-1) struggled in his three innings allowing 4H/ 6R/ 2ER/ 4BB/ 5K. The right-hander surrendered two more home runs increasing his total to a whopping eight for the season (4 starts). Ryan Roberts throwing error opened the floodgates for a huge third inning. Th...

Pitchers and Catchers
Posted on 3 Feb 2011 by Josh Robbins.
It is almost time to hear those three magic words, pitchers and catchers. The Arizona Diamondbacks hurlers and backstops will report February 13th to their brand new home Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. The 2011 Diamondbacks starting rotation features six quality arms for five positions. Joe Saunders, Daniel Hudson, Ian Kennedy, Barry Enright, Zach Duke, and Armando Galarraga will compe...

Contrary to popular belief, Tigs still have a chance
Posted on 10 Aug 2010 by Shane Liebler.
OK, so things aren't going so well for the Tigers. One of the year's most surprising players is in a surprisingly brutal slump, they lost a third of their starters to injury in the same week and they're batting average with runners in scoring position (.245) is near the bottom of both leagues. Oh, and is anyone else sick of Armando Galarraga blowing ballgame after ballgame? He let a struggling ...

Did or died
Posted on 5 Aug 2010 by Shane Liebler.
Sure felt like a playoff game, didn't it? The palpable intensity, intense pitching, late inning heroics and … the loss that puts the dagger in your season. Today was a one-game playoff for the Tigers, a now or “wait 'til next year” moment for a team that's been clawing for its life for a few weeks now. With a chance to even a tough series, Brandon Inge back at third, Carlos Gu...

Tigs already have All-Star lineup of memories
Posted on 14 Jul 2010 by Shane Liebler.
Well, Tigers fans, it's been a memorable season so far and at the halfway point, I thought it would be a good idea to share some of our favorite mental mementos so far. (more…)

Let the interleague feast begin
Posted on 15 Jun 2010 by Shane Liebler.
Ahhh. Nothing spells relief quite like I-N-T-E-R-L-E-A-G-U-E. It's time for the Tigers' summer vacation. I'm usually not quite this confident about a team just barely over .500, but with the Buccos behind us and upcoming dates with Washington, Arizona and New York, it is kind of hard not to be. The Tigers are 59-22 in interleague play since 2005. The Nats are average, the D-Backs sloppy and the...

The truth about replay, finally
Posted on 4 Jun 2010 by Eddie Kim.
Over the years, there have been many arguments for instant replay and many arguments against instant replay. These arguments have been heightened over the past two days following the incident in which a questionable call by umpire Jim Joyce seemingly cost Detroit's Armando Galarraga a perfect game. But in all these arguments I've heard over the years, not once have I heard the real reason why M...

Baseball purists should still prefer imperfection
Posted on 3 Jun 2010 by Shane Liebler.
He blew it. In Jim Joyce's own words, he kicked the sh*t out of it. There's no debate he shamefully wiped away history when both his arms waved “safe.” We're angry; upset for Galarraga, the Tigers, the game of baseball. I'd like for Galarraga to take his rightful place in baseball history. He pitched the perfect game and there's no one that disagrees … except the one who has t...

Oh my Boesch! Rookies making the difference this year
Posted on 20 May 2010 by Shane Liebler.
The biggest question mark coming into this season had to be whether the Tigers could replace Curtis Granderson's athleticism and power. Rookie Austin Jackson has proved an apt leadoff man, leading the team in hits and stolen bases while currently tied with Johnny Damon for runs scored. Brennan Boesch has provided the muscle, batting in 19 runners in nearly as many games, slugging a team-leading...
