The Bell Helicopter Armed Forces Bowl: Army-SMU
Posted on 29 Dec 2010 by Donald Lappe.
It has been an interesting season for the Army football program. With six wins, the Black Knights are in a bowl game for the first time since 1996. There have been big wins, missed opportunities, and a few bad defeats, but the program is clearly moving forward. The tilt with SMU presents a chance to get a bowl victory, which would be a nice feather in Rich Ellerson's cap. When and Where: Thursd...

Series History: 54-49-7 in favor of the Midshipmen, including eight straight wins over the Black Knights entering this season. Matchup: This group of Army seniors has made it a point to be different. Army falls to Air Force
Posted on 7 Nov 2010 by Donald Lappe.
The Army football team fell to 5-4 Saturday after losing to Air Force 42-22. The Black Knights honored 29 members of the senior class at Michie Stadium prior to kickoff. Coming into the game, Army was fifth in the nation in turnover margin. This has been a major factor in the team's success this season. Sometimes watching the team this year it seemed as if they were walking a tightrope, and nee...

A look at the homestretch for Army
Posted on 21 Oct 2010 by Donald Lappe.
As the Army football team spends its bye week preparing for VMI and the last five games of the season, it is a good opportunity to assess what lies ahead. Army can compete with every team remaining on the schedule. They have competed with every team they have faced so far, and should continue to do so. The offense has been consistently productive, and the defense's ability to create negative pl...

Army football midseason report card
Posted on 14 Oct 2010 by Donald Lappe.
After six games, the Army football team sits at 4-2, which is very similar to what I had envisioned prior to the season. There have been some surprises, however. This team could easily be 6-0. I thought they would struggle against Hawaii, but they outplayed the Warriors up until an untimely fumble by backup quarterback Max Jenkins ended the drive to set up the game-winning field goal attempt. T...

While Rutgers prepares to continue their winning momentum this season against a tough North Carolina team on Saturday, the team is already preparing to play in a championship environment in the next few years. The Scarlet Knights and Miami University are close to agreeing on a showdown in 2013 at Yankee Stadium for a clash of former Big East rivals. The schools have met 11 times, with Miami...

Army’s First Four in 2010
Posted on 20 Aug 2010 by Donald Lappe.
In a continuation of the countdown to the kickoff of Army’s 121st year of football on September 4th against Eastern Michigan, I will break down Army’s upcoming regular season schedule. In the interest of keeping the post size down, I will start today with the first four games. Overall I expect an 8-4 regular season record for the Black Knights. Seven to nine wins would be considered a good ...

Army Black Knights 2010 Season Preview
Posted on 18 Aug 2010 by Donald Lappe.
A new season means renewed hope for all 120 Division I FBS teams; some are justified in their optimism for the coming season, some are not. In Head Coach Rich Ellerson’s first season in charge for the Black Knights, Army posted a 5-7 record which was a two-win improvement over the 3-9 mark the team posted in 2008. Five wins is the most Army has posted since their 10-2 record in 1996, which in...
