Looks like Tuukka against Joey MacDonald tonight…Not many people here when the Leafs stepped onto the ice but the few that were here were as loud as they could with the BOOING My bet is that is will be 60/40 for the boobirds and Kessel

Special Teams Power the Bruins
Posted on 3 Dec 2009 by Jim Mulligan.
The Bruins are rolling right now. Having taken points in seven straight games (6-0-1), they once again, leap frogged back into first place in the Northeast Division. Tonight the special teams and Tim Thomas were the main contributors in a 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The power play started the scoring when Marc Savard's backhand pass to Michael Ryder was deflected in off the s...

Thomas vs Smith in the nets… Savvy signs a longterm entension that's both good for him and the team. His 7 yr / $28M deal is front loaded so he is paid $7M, $7M, $6.5M, $5M, $1.5M, $525K and $525K. For the Bruins, the cap hit is $4.007 for the life of the deal. Another positive for the team are the final 3 years of the deal. If Savvy's skills decline to the point where he is ...

Late Goal costs Bruins
Posted on 29 Nov 2009 by Jim Mulligan.
This was one of those games where you have to play all 60 minutes. Both teams found this out the hard way. For Ottawa, they came in and really took it to the Bruins early. With the game barely eight minutes old, the Senators had a 2-0 lead on goals by their captain, Daniel Alfredsson and first year Sen, Milan Michalek. I guess the Sens must have thought it was going to be an easy night at ...

Devils stop Bruins win streak but B’s take a point
Posted on 28 Nov 2009 by Jim Mulligan.
It was a good news/bad news kind of day. On my way into Boston today, I was informed that Peter Chiarelli called an early press conference about the health and status of Milan Lucic. Looch went down awkwardly late in the Minnesota game Wednesday night and it immediately reminded me of Marco Sturm's devastating knee injury last December. The circumstances for both players were eerily s...

Rask & Brodeur were the 1st ones on to the ice Milan Lucic has been diagnosed with a high ankle sprain – out at least a month. Lucic fell awkwardly in Minnesota and it reminded me of the fall Marco Sturm took last December here in Boston in a game against the Mapla Leafs

Kessel Our Savior?
Posted on 2 Nov 2009 by Mike Crupi.
What will Kessel's debut in Blue and White bring to the club? The Leafs are hopeful that by Tuesday night they will be able to pencil 36 goal scorer Phil Kessel into the lineup. Recovering from off-season shoulder surgery, Phil Kessel will most likely be cleared to suit up against the Tampa Bay Lightning at the ACC where the Leafs are winless this season. The question is how much of a...

Bruins Blank Oilers

After a heartbreaking last minute loss to the Devils Thursday night, the Bruins took to the ice today against the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers traveled to Boston yesterday arriving late in the afternoon after an emotional shootout win against the Red Wings at home Thursday night. As much as the Bruins are banged up, missing key players like Marc Savard and Milan Lucic, the Oilers are getting...

Kobasew to Minnesota
Posted on 19 Oct 2009 by Jim Mulligan.
Going into the season with high expectations, the Bruins have stumbled out of the gate. The team, for the most part, has been inconsistant with a couple of good nights tossed in for good measure. After last season's 116 point performance, a 3-4 start is not acceptable for the black and gold or it's fans. Kobasew isn't the only one to blame for the team's slow start. His bein...

Bruins get lucky against New York
Posted on 11 Oct 2009 by Jim Mulligan.
After a dismal outing Thursday night, Claude Julien skated the boys hard Friday to emphasize the team needing to put forth a much better effort for the Islanders tonight. It didn't work. Coach Julien did replace the defending Vezina Trophy winner, Tim Thomas with Tuukka Rask. That sort of worked. The team in general lacked discipline and during a penalty filled first period, Rask play...
