Bullpen needs to find the strike zone
Posted on 23 May 2013 by Brendan Keelan.
The Orioles brought up twenty-two year old Kevin Gausman, who was the 4th overall pick out of LSU in last years First-Year Player Draft, Tuesday to make his major league debut in Toronto. Gausman pitched five innings gave up seven hits, four earned runs, two walks and struck out five batters tonight but still earned the loss in his first start in the majors. With no help from the bullpen the Or...

Morrow shines in Vizquel’s swan song
Posted on 4 Oct 2012 by Amanda Tallon.
Brandon Morrow definitely saved his best for last, having his best start since returning from the disabled list, on the last day of the season. Striking out five of the first six batters he faced, it was easy to tell early on that Morrow had his best stuff working on the night. His eight innings, three hits, three walks, and one earned run with eleven strikeouts is one of the best pitching line...

Jays blank Yanks 6-0
Posted on 28 Sep 2012 by Amanda Tallon.
After losing 8 of 10 on the last road trip of the season, the Jays managed to kick off their last home stand with a 6-0 win over the Yankees. Brandon Morrow went the deepest in a game since before he went on the disabled list in June. Morrow pitched seven strong innings, only giving up four hits. After facing five batters in the seventh and needing 21 pitches to get through the inning, Morrowâ€...

Jays lose 3-2 to Boston
Posted on 16 Sep 2012 by Amanda Tallon.
For anyone who may be watching, Carlos Villanueva has shown this season that he’s capable of being a member of a starting rotation. Of his 14 starts this season, only two of them have been no decisions (including Saturday against Boston) and he’s amassed a 7-5 record. In a season where Toronto rotation needed some stability from somewhere, Villanueva provided a decent starting point. On S...

Toronto avoids sweep; win 6-4
Posted on 6 Sep 2012 by Amanda Tallon.
Wednesday night’s win was a sorely needed bright spot to end the Blue Jays’ current home stand. After winning the first two games against Tampa Bay last week with good pitching and defense, Toronto went on to drop their last four games, including two shutouts at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles. In his third start since coming off the DL, Brandon Morrow continued to improve and show glimp...

Jays beat Rays 2-0
Posted on 31 Aug 2012 by Amanda Tallon.
With their win Thursday night, the Blue Jays managed to win back-to-back games for the first time since the middle of August. It seems Toronto has every intention of ending a disastrous August on a winning note, having won three of their last four. In what was one of (if not the best) pitched games on the season, Toronto starter Carlos Villanueva went six strong innings without giving up a run....

Jays lose Bautista and 7th straight
Posted on 26 Aug 2012 by Amanda Tallon.
Although it’s hard to imagine the Blue Jays being able to turn their season around, there was some feeling things could get better this weekend. Friday night marked the return of Jose Bautista, but even the slugger’s anticipated return wasn’t enough to help the Jays come through late in the game. Saturday’s game saw the return of Brandon Morrow to the mound after he left his June 11th s...

In a win that guarantees another series win, several O’s fall short of individual milestones
Posted on 25 Aug 2012 by Brendan Keelan.
With 36 games left in the season the Orioles matched last year's win total with an 8-2 victory over Toronto. The O's are now within four games of the East Division Lead after a Yankee loss today. Although posting stellar performances Matt Wieters and J.J. Hardy fell just shy of tying all-time Orioles single game records. Matt Wieters gunned down three runners trying to steal in tonight's game, ...

Romero walks 8 in loss to Tigers
Posted on 21 Aug 2012 by Amanda Tallon.
The season has not been kind to Ricky Romero. After going 8-1 before the All-Star Break, Romero hasn’t been able to record a win in ten starts. His latest attempt against the Detroit Tigers was another forgettable trip to the mound for Romero. Over his last ten games, Romero has shown moments of improvement over his control issues that have plagued him all season. In his last start against th...

Jays lose 2nd game of series
Posted on 15 Aug 2012 by Amanda Tallon.
For the Blue Jays Tuesday’s loss to Chicago hinged mainly on two plays: Henderson Alvarez’s error in the fifth that allowed in the eventual winning run, and Edwin Encarnacion’s lineout/turned double-play to end a bases-loaded opportunity. Alvarez was pitching well early in the game. He had only given up two hits, until AJ Pierzynski’s lead-off single in the fifth. Pierzynski would event...

Jays lose 4-1 to Tigers, but still win series
Posted on 30 Jul 2012 by Amanda Tallon.
It was hard to know going into Sunday’s game which Brett Cecil the Blue Jays were going to see. At times since being recalled, Brett Cecil has possessed the kind of control he needs to be effective, now that he’s throwing for a lower velocity. At other times, he’s lacked the control to keep opposing hitters guessing. For the most part, control was the story of the day for Cecil. In the ea...

Jays fall 7-2 to A’s
Posted on 25 Jul 2012 by Amanda Tallon.
Good pitching beats good hitting. That’s the best way to describe what happened to the Blue Jays on Tuesday night against the Oakland Athletics. After setting a season high in hits on Sunday with 18, the Jays were held to two runs on eight hits. Oakland starter Trevor Blackley put in a strong seven innings, giving a good example of why the A’s have found ways to win of late; their pitching....
