PGA TOUR: What It Means: April 8, 2012 — The Masters
Posted on 8 Apr 2012 by Jeremy Schilling.
Here's this week's What It Means: 1) What an amazing Sunday at Augusta. Bubba Watson, a throwback player to another era, who in 2010 at the PGA Championship just wanted to make the Ryder Cup team so his father could see him represent his country before he passed, hits one of the most amazing shots in Masters history to win his first green jacket. As Jim said, these are scripts you just can't wr...

Here's this week's What It Means: 1) Congrats to Justin Rose for winning the WGC-Cadillac Championship at Doral. Stellar play this week and survived a tough Sunday when a lot of guys went backwards. As NBC's Jimmy Roberts pointed out, Rose has now won Jack's event, Tiger's event, a WGC and a FedEx Cup playoff event. Good stuff. I would not be surprised to see him contend at a major this year. 2...

PGA TOUR WHAT IT MEANS: November 21, 2011 — Presidents Cup

Here are my observations from the Presidents Cup: 1) Tiger Woods is finally, officially, back. He hit 17 of 18 greens in his Saturday afternoon match with Dustin Johnson. And he finally made the putts on Sunday and shot -5 in singles, the best of anyone on either team. Watch out for 2012, Tiger Woods is back. 2) Bubba Watson and Webb Simpson are a pairing that will work for many years for the U...

Another playoff starts this week's What It Means: 1) Bubba Watson's playoff win at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, his second win of the season, happened when he made birdie on the second playoff hole against Webb Simpson but also happened because of mental toughness. He hit it in the water on the 9th hole and at one point fell three shots behind Simpson. But he gathered his composure and ma...

PGA Tour Sleeper: Steve Marino
Posted on 7 Feb 2011 by High Fade.
When Bubba Watson won his first PGA tournament at the 2010 Travelers Championship, Steve Marino immediately inherited the mantle as the “Best Player on Tour Without a Win”. This unofficial title says a lot about a golfer’s potential; unfortunately it also underlines their inability to win a tournament. When you look at Marino’s 2010 actual scoring average of 70.99 verses his final rou...

A great week at Torrey Pines kicks off this week's What It Means: Bubba Watson Wins His Second PGA Tour event at the Farmers Insurance Open: Bubba is not all about distance anymore. Yes, he led the PGA Tour in driving last year at 314 yards, but his finesse shots — the wedges inside of 100 yards, and especially his putting — have improved so much since he first came out on tour. He ...

Dawn of a New Era
Posted on 6 Jan 2011 by High Fade.
The PGA Tour underwent a major change in 2010 when we didn’t see Tiger Woods dominating the season with multiple wins and a few majors tossed in for good measure. However, what we did see was a youth movement in golf, noted by the emergence of Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Ricky Fowler, Bill Haas and Jeff Overton as well as the late blooming talent of Matt Kuchar, Justin Rose and Bubba Watson...
