Wings Rally Late to Force Game 6
Posted on 9 May 2011 by Kirk Butler.
Despite dropping the first 3 games of this series the Wings have somehow managed to make it a series as they have forced a Game 6 back in Detroit on Tuesday night. Despite being drastically out shot 42-22, outplayed for most of the game and having to kill off several undisciplined penalties the Wings managed to do complete their first comeback of the series erasing a 2 goal deficit in the 3rd p...

Keeping it Tight

As we entered into today's action, 2 points separate 2nd place through 9th place in the Western Conference standings. The San Jose Sharks are tied, in points, with teams in 6th through 9th after their 2-1 OT win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. The situation could have been a lot first for this Sharks team that went 3-2-0 on their most recent road-trip that saw wins against the Ot...

Progress Report
Posted on 3 Nov 2010 by Alex Wasserstrom.
With their 1-0 loss to Minnesota on Tuesday, the Sharks now sit wedged in the middle of their division with a 5-4-1 record. Hitting the 10-game mark provides us with a sample size of where this team stands and what to expect from them. Things I like: The powerplay. Currently a league-best at 28.6%, the Sharks play with 4 fowards and the offensive-minded defensman Dan Boyle on the top unit. The ...

Who are the Real Sharks?
Posted on 3 Nov 2010 by Patrick McLellan.
As the San Jose Sharks make their way to St. Louis for tomorrow night’s game, the Blues are likely taking a different view of their foes. Since the lockout, the Sharks have been one of the most dominant teams in the NHL. Stanley Cup championships aside, the Sharks have collected about every other notable piece of hardware the league can award a team or individual and have flat out dominated. ...

Preview: Sharks vs Devils
Posted on 27 Oct 2010 by Alex Wasserstrom.
I guess the only positive thing about the Sharks' loss to Calgary on Sunday was that the score wasn't 8-0 – which it easily could have been. The Sharks will look to rebound tonight at home against the New Jersey Devils who currently sit at a league-worse 2-6-1. Drama, to say the least, has surrounded the organization with Ilya Kovalchuk being a healthy scratch for apparently missing a mee...

Sharks Roll Oilers 6-1
Posted on 24 Oct 2010 by Alex Wasserstrom.
The three powerplay goals scored by the Sharks helped propel them to a 6-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers Saturday night. Antero Niittymaki saw his second consecutive start stopping 21 of the 22 shots faced. The pieces are coming together more and more for this Sharks team, as the big trio of Thornton, Heatley, and Marleau started the game together for the first time this season. Some fundam...

Big Buff Spoils Sharks’ Home Opener
Posted on 17 Oct 2010 by Alex Wasserstrom.
I guess it would not be a proper introduction for Antii Niemi to San Jose Sharks' hockey unless he suffered a defeat at the hands of Dustin Byfuglien. Four unanswered goals by the Atlanta Thrashers propelled them to a come-from-behind victory spoiling the Sharks' home opener. Dustin Byfuglien was credited with the game-winning goal – his first of the season and as a Thrasher- at the 13:4...

According to sources at ESPN, the San Jose Sharks have re-signed Joe Thornton to a 3-year $21 million extension. Thornton, 31, is slated to earn $7.2 million this season and was set to become an unrestricted free-agent this summer and has also publicly expressed his interest in staying with the Sharks in recent interviews especially after being named team captain. Jumbo, has 2 goals in his firs...

Sharks Open Camp; Who’s Hot? Who’s Not?
Posted on 20 Sep 2010 by Alex Wasserstrom.
Like all NHL clubs this weekend, the San Jose Sharks opened main camp to capacity crowds at their training facilities. Day 1 featured two groups, A and B, with two ice sessions for each group. The practices featured flow drills and system instructions in preparation for the start of pre-season games this week. Day 2 included an inner-squad scrimmage in addition to separate practices for each gr...

2010-2011 San Jose Sharks Preview
Posted on 26 Aug 2010 by Alex Wasserstrom.
After the San Jose Sharks exited the 2009 Playoffs in a first-round upset to the Anaheim Ducks, the message around the Bay Area for 2009-2010 was clear: Stanley Cup or bust. It didn't matter as much to fans how the Sharks performed in the regular season – though they finished as a number one seed again – but fans wanted to see a dramatic improvement when April came around. An impro...

The NHL Top 10 Nominees At Each Position Are……
Posted on 29 Jul 2010 by Trent Kondo.
This is just a summary of what I feel are the top 10 players in each category in the NHL to date. Sure there will be many arguments for and against what I have inserted here but let's take a look at what I have and see if we agree. Center: Sidney Crosby- should not be any argument here, the “kid” is hands down the best center and possibly the player in the game today. Pavel Datsyuk-...

Seventh man?…. Boyle own goal gives Avalanche 2-1 series lead
Posted on 19 Apr 2010 by Igor Henriques.
Heading into overtime of Game Three against the San Jose Sharks, the Avalanche could count their blessings that they were still in the game. After all, the Sharks heavily outplayed them through 60 minutes and if not for a miraculous performance from goaltender Craig Anderson, who came up with 51 saves they would not have made it anywhere near overtime. Just as the bell tolled for one Steve Sm...
