Judge Shanny
Posted on 1 Oct 2011 by Patrick McLellan.
I was at a friends’ house my sophomore year of high school and the Blues game was on. They were playing the Winnipeg Jets. My family is not a hockey family by any means, so my exposure to the sport was very limited at the time. However, I went to a different high school than my older siblings that boasted a great hockey program in which many of my friends played and I was a regular rink rat e...

Deep Blues
Posted on 12 Sep 2011 by Patrick McLellan.
As many teams added to their rosters via free agency and trades the first week of July, the Blues stood idle as they continued their ownership quest. Blues nation was going to have to (once again) “wait until next year” while cash strapped Dave Checketts and soon to be ex-Blues owners Towerbrook Capitol were not willing to partake in the frenzy that saw millions of dollars thrown at free ag...

St. Louis Blues Summer Playbook
Posted on 28 Jun 2011 by Corey Krakower.
The St. Louis Blues 2010-11 season was one to forget, especially given the number of unfortunate injuries. The Blues continue to be on the rise because of strong drafting and cultivation of their young players. This offseason will be relatively uneventful for Blues fans, as the team will likely focus on re-signing their own players. Jaroslav Halak had a decent first season in St. Louis, but he ...

HATE TO SAY I TOLD YOU SO BUT…
Posted on 15 Feb 2011 by Dave Frederick.
High expectations are dangerous. Just like combining tequila and wine. I won't name names the way Sammy “The Bull” Gravano did, but you know who you are. You're the ones who publicly predicted the Blues would finish 6th or higher. The ones who boldly and ignorantly stated the Blues would make the playoffs this season. I asked why back then and will repeatedly ask why until...

Kings 1-6-0 in Current Home Stand
Posted on 14 Jan 2011 by Eric Cooney.
Let's get this straight; the Kings were flat out out-played by the Blues tonight. Take nothing away from the Blues who were A) Mired in the same type of slump as the Kings, B) Were playing on the road, C) Are missing Andy MacDonald, TJ Oshie and David Perron, and D) Played and lost last night. If there were ever a vulnerable team, St. Louis tonight was it. Yet, it was the Kings who fell. ...

MONEY IS POWER
Posted on 9 Jan 2011 by Dave Frederick.
Let me begin by quoting a great American, Gordon Gekko. “Greed, for lack of a better word, is good”. At some point, the Blues must adhere to these words of wisdom and take the advice of this Wall Street felon. Note to Blues ownership, get greedy and obsess about winning a Stanley Cup. But first, let's dive into some of the real issues the Bluenote are experiencing. Anybody...

THIS TEAM PERSONIFIES HEART
Posted on 1 Jan 2011 by Dave Frederick.
“Teamwork divides the task and doubles the success”. This quote can easily be attributed to any player currently on the Blues roster. This season so far has been a rollercoaster. The beginning showed the Blues off to one of their best starts in franchise history. Then injuries hit and the team went into a downward spiral. But Head Coach Davis Payne was able to maintain con...

Why The Blues Should NOT Make A Major Trade
Posted on 8 Dec 2010 by Dave Frederick.
Everybody who claims to be a hockey expert is expecting and demanding the bewildered Blues management group to make a trade, and make it happen soon. One would think this would be an obvious way to go. With the team missing their three top forwards in T.J. Oshie (broken ankle), David Perron and Andy McDonald (concussions), there is no question the Blues are hurting for offense. But the Bl...

WHO’S TO BLAME FOR THIS MESS?
Posted on 18 Nov 2010 by Dave Frederick.
Why must the media always look for somebody to blame? The answer is simple. It's an essential ingredient as to how we live our daily lives. We blame our girlfriends, boyfriends, husband, wives, politicians, managers, financial advisors, doctors, teachers, the chick at the bar who gave you crabs…sorry to go there! But you get the message. So let's try and figure out who exactly is...

BLUES HAVING A BALL!
Posted on 6 Nov 2010 by Dave Frederick.
Sorry for the title, but I have been trying to figure out a way to use “Blues” and “ball” in the same sentence. Yes, it is a reach. But the fact of the matter is the Blues are definitely seeing first-hand how fun winning can be. Thanks to shutting out the Sharks 2-0 Thursday night, the Blues are off to their second best start in team history (the team's best start ...

Thornton Handed Two-Game Suspension
Posted on 5 Nov 2010 by Alex Wasserstrom.
Accompanied by the 2-0 loss, and second straight shutout against the Sharks, captain Joe Thornton was handed a two-game suspension for his hit on Blues' forward David Perron. Thornton was assessed a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for the hit and missed the final 35, or so, minutes of the game. Perron scored the Blues' second goal of the game about 10 minutes after the incident. For those ...

TAKING DOWN THE DEFENDING CHAMPS
Posted on 23 Oct 2010 by Dave Frederick.
This was simply a sight for sore eyes. Not only did the Blues defeat their biggest rivals in the NHL, they did so by overcoming one of their biggest problems this season–holding on to a third period lead. After Roman Polak's tiebreaking goal with just under nine minutes left in the third period, Blues fans collectively held their breath, put down their Budweiser's and tightened their ...
