Some Kings “What Ifs?”
Posted on 15 Feb 2012 by Eric Cooney.
So a few weeks ago I posted a blog about how the Kings had problems finishing in regulation, relating the problem to A) scoring woes and B) their past history of overtime losses in the playoffs. For it, I was called “desperate and nerdy” and a “bad journalist” (I wish) and told it was “poor writing.” Since then, the Kings have only gone to OT 2 more times...

12 Bold Habs Predictions for 2012
Posted on 4 Jan 2012 by Corey Krakower.
2011 was an interesting year for Montreal. They went to a game 7 overtime against the eventual stanley cup champions in the first round of the playoffs. They signed veteran winger Erik Cole in the summer. They made some interesting trades, including the Kaberle for Spacek deal. They got off to a terrible start in the 2011-12 season. The biggest story came at the end of the year, when they chang...

As we take a look at the Los Angeles Kings Summer Playbook it appears GM Dean Lombardi is already a few pages deep. A surprising flurry of activity cropped up several days before the draft that already drastically altered the makeup of the Kings. First, Ryan Smyth unexpectedly requested a trade back to Edmonton. While that was going on, Lombardi made a monster swap with Philadelphia, trad...

Sharks vs Kings – Series Preview
Posted on 12 Apr 2011 by Alex Wasserstrom.
It has been quite a season for the San Jose Sharks – from struggling to find consistency to surging into a 4th straight Pacific Division title. This team has a different make-up from Sharks teams of the past in the fact that there is a real sense of improvement as the season progressed. As noted in my season preview, I felt that if the Sharks had to battle for a higher seed, especially wi...

Brown, Lewis Push Kings Past Oil
Posted on 30 Mar 2011 by Eric Cooney.
The Kings passed their first test without Kopi at the helm, beating the Oilers 2-0 on Tuesday night. Granted, the Oilers aren't the toughest test for the Kings, but it was a solid win and something to build off of as they push for the end of the regular season. (more…)

Will Edmonton’s offensive engine stall with no Penz-Oil?
Posted on 1 Mar 2011 by Scott Pattison.
The post-Penner era commences tonight in the Alberta capital, as the Edmonton Oilers welcome the Nashville Predators to Rexall Place without their primary big man on the wing. While Los Angeles Kings’ GM Dean Lombardi pulled the trigger for “today”, Oilers GM Steve Tambellini was motivated more by the “future”, sending leading scorer Dustin Penner back to California for promising defe...

Teams have 48 hours to pick up Souray's rights, since it's the weekend. s Steve Tambellini could be the most popular dance partner at this year’s NHL trade soiree – or he could be a wall flower! Montreal Canadiens Trade Deadline Gameplan
Posted on 15 Feb 2011 by Corey Krakower.
With a flurry of trades dominating NHL headlines this month, and the February 28 trade deadline only 13 days away, it’s time to take a look at what Montreal Canadiens’ GM Pierre Gauthier might do to bolster his roster. Besides the Philadelphia Flyers and possibly the Boston Bruins, the Eastern Conference doesn’t have any “ELITE” teams, and therefore any team that makes the playoffs ca...

Trade Rumors: From Fisher to Penner
Posted on 4 Feb 2011 by Eric Cooney.
The two names I've heard popping up the most recently that are linked to the Kings are Mike Fisher of the Ottawa Senators and Dustin Penner of the Edmonton Oilers. I have no idea if there is any truth behind the Kings's alleged interest in these guys, but I can analyze the possibility of a potential trade for these guys. (more…)

Posted on 26 Jan 2011 by Robb Patty.
Before the game Coyotes defensemen Keith Yandle was all smiles, after he was wondering how his team gave up a two-goal lead to lose to the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 with :20 seconds left in regulation. At the 19:38 mark of the third period Oilers forward Dustin Penner beat Coyotes goalie Ilya Bryzgalov to cap off the Oilers comeback and give the Yotes their fourth straight loss at Jobing.com Arena. T...
