RUMBLE IN OBAMA’S BACKYARD
Posted on 31 Mar 2011 by Sean Eckhardt.
There was a basketball game scheduled for Wednesday night in Washington DC. The teams were supposed to be the Miami Heat and the Washington Wizards, but it appeared that the Florida Panthers and Washington Capitals took their place. From the beginning, there were elbows, hip checks, flailing bodies, and even a punch or two. The Wizards were playing like the Capitals, or maybe the...

Lightning Fall Again 4-3 in OT
Posted on 13 Mar 2011 by Christopher Tran.
The Tampa Bay Lightning lost another game that they should have won, falling 4-3 to the Florida Panthers. Even though they played their second game in just as many nights there was no reason come out flat since they didn’t put much effort into the match the night before. Panther’s Jason Garrison’s goal sent the Lightning packing with 16 seconds remaining in overtime. Just like that th...

Caps get Wideman
Posted on 28 Feb 2011 by Dennis Patchett.
I've blogged that the Caps need another Defenseman to help Mike Green – I ranked it, at the time, the Cap's #3 need. Since that blog, Green has suffered a nagging head injury and Tom Poti continues on the IR; thus, moving a lower priority to the top of the list! The Caps traded for Dennis Wideman of the Florida Panthers. They give up Jake Hanswirth and a 3rd round pick in the 2011 d...

Isles, Moulson claw their way past Panthers
Posted on 22 Feb 2011 by Dave Thomas.
While the playoffs may seem out of reach to most who follow the New York Islanders, don't tell that to the team itself. Matt Moulson tallied a hat-trick (second of his career) Monday afternoon, as the Isles skated to a 5-1 victory on President's Day on Long Island. Al Montoya, who was coming off of a shutout of the Los Angeles Kings this past Saturday evening, turned aside 20 shots to score th...

Bolts Fall in Shootout to Panthers, Lose Third Straight
Posted on 20 Feb 2011 by Christopher Tran.
As expected, after a 6-3 shellacking by the Detroit Red Wings, the Tampa Bay Lightning came back with a good effort against their Southern Floridian rivals. In the end though it was another disappointing night as they lose their third in a row. The Lightning headed into the waning minutes of the third frame with a 2-1 lead when Nate Thompson was sent to the box on a questionable boarding call...

Stanley Cup or Larsson Cup?
Posted on 17 Jan 2011 by Jason Wagensveld.
It's that time of year again when many NHL teams begin to contemplate which direction they are going in. Are they close enough to being a Stanley Cup contender or are they closer to winning the Adam Larsson sweepstakes? Should they add a few pieces and make a run at the cup or should they trade what they have for draft picks? The Blue Jackets are in a tough position as they are in 13th pla...

Parity No Rarity
Posted on 9 Jan 2011 by Patrick McLellan.
If the Blues were to have won their game against the New York Rangers last night, they would be in fifth place in the Western Conference. Instead, they sit in 12th. 12th place is only one point behind the 8th and final playoff spot. The parity in the Western Conference is unbelievable this year. As Jim Morrison used to say; the West is the best. It couldn’t be truer. Yes, there are some great...

Bruins go on the road – No suspension for Lucic
Posted on 26 Dec 2010 by Jim Mulligan.
After a less than successful three game homestand, the Claude Julien's Bruins are heading out on the road to tour the Southeast Division. With blizzard like conditions throughout New England today, the B's moved their practice up so they could get out of town before the weather prevented their charter from getting off the ground. The trip starts tomorrow in Sunrise, FL against the Panthers ...

Bruins Win, But It’s Time for a Change
Posted on 25 Nov 2010 by Matt Preston.
Times change. People change. I might be afraid of change, but change is just a fact of life. The game changes. Players change. Rules change. Now it is time for the system of play head coach Claude Julien has implemented for the Boston Bruins to change. Might seem like an odd thing to hear about a team coming off a 3-1 win on Wednesday evening against the Florida Panthers, is just three wins shy...

Rex hits 1500!
Posted on 24 Nov 2010 by Jim Mulligan.
With two goals tonight, Mark Recchi now has 1,500 career points. With 4:00 remaining in a 2-1 game against the Florida Panthers, Recchi scored a power play goal on a rebound of a Milan Lucic wrist shot. Rex said in a post-game TV interview that both goals were important for the team and he was glad to help get the win. Recchi now stands at #13 overall in career points. Next up on the list...

Islanders go down to 12th straight defeat; when will they win?
Posted on 21 Nov 2010 by Dave Thomas.
While you can't fault the recent effort of the New York Islanders, it is hard to find something good to say about the end result. Saturday night on Long Island was no different, as the Isles suffered their 12th straight defeat, the second in a row for new head coach Jack Capuano. In their 4-1 loss to Florida, the Islanders continued to play with emotion at times, but not see the ‘W' they ...

Lucic’s Hat Trick Powers Bruins
Posted on 19 Nov 2010 by Jim Mulligan.
The NHL season is a long one and sometimes you get a game that's a total stinker. Tonight was that stinker. Ya, the Bruins shutout the Florida Panthers by a score of 4-0 but for the first fifty five minutes tonight….zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Both teams played and won last night and they got in late to Boston so the sluggish game could be blamed on that. Sometime it happens when you play...
