Where the Jays Stand – Relief Corps
Posted on 14 Feb 2012 by Ben Fisher.
The comments lauding the quality and depth of the Toronto Blue Jays’ bullpen heading into the 2012 season (‘three closers!’, ‘experience!’ ‘late-inning shutdown guys!’) seem all-too-familiar. It was just last season that the very same things were being said about a unit headlined by Frank Francisco, Jon Rauch and Octavio Dotel, none of whom are back for the coming season and all o...

Jays’ Off-Season Shopping Wraps with Vintage Buys
Posted on 25 Jan 2012 by Ben Fisher.
As if managing the day-to-day operations of a baseball club and facing questions about his (lack of) off-season activity aren't stressful enough, Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos is growing self-conscious about his age as he approaches the big 3-5 this year. Okay, I don't know that to be true whatsoever, but how else do you explain the sudden stockpiling of greybeards to fill holes in the roster? Each...

Game One Thoughts
Posted on 6 Oct 2010 by Dave Allen.
The date was July 30, 2010. The teams were the Phillies and the Reds. The pitching matchup was Roy Halladay (9-6, 2.29) vs. Aaron Harang (6-7, 5.07). Who do you think won? If you said the Reds, you are right! Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the 6th, the Reds got a leadoff homer from Joey Votto to make it 3-1. Orlando Cabrera got a 1-out single to score Ramon Hernandez in the 7th to cut it ...

Reds-Nationals on MLB Network 7/22 at 12:30

Just a few quick hits today as Stephen Strasburg-mania comes to Great American Ball Park. I've seen on StubHub where many fans have listed their tickets for resale at $1,000 a pop. I was incredulous when I saw that yesterday afternoon. Did you know that Strasburg and Mike Leake were once little league teammates in San Diego. They played on an 11U team called the San Diego Sting. Strasburg was t...

Philly One-Ups The Reds… Again!
Posted on 11 Jul 2010 by Dave Allen.
That’s three in a row down to defeat, all in extra innings, and all at Philadelphia. The Reds haven’t had the success in the win column this weekend, but they have shown a continued ability to battle. And they’ve shown it at the home of the defending NL Champions. Truthfully, I don’t think this weekend has been as much of a negative as most fans might think. The Phillies are a pretty go...

Reds Continue To Battle
Posted on 18 May 2010 by Dave Allen.
The Reds continued their run atop the Central Division with a 6-3 win over the Milwaukee Brewers, a day after they wrestled first place away from the St. Louis Cardinals. The Reds are passing all of the tests coming their way right now. The latest was to see if the team would let down after the jubilation of capturing first place had settled down. It would have been easy to overlook Milwaukee....

Reds end losing streak
Posted on 20 Apr 2010 by Dave Allen.
The Reds ended their five-game losing streak with a big 11-9 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers in Great American Ball Park. One thing’s for sure. Don’t root for this team if you’ve got a weak heart. The Reds scored in their final at-bat to get the win yet again. All six Reds wins have come when they’ve scored runs in their final at-bat. Reds starting pitchers still do not have a victory....

Reds get series win over the Cubs
Posted on 11 Apr 2010 by Dave Allen.
Cincinnati took two of three games from the Cubs over the weekend to finish their first homestand of the season at an even 3-3. Fans were treated to three classic ballgames at Great American Ball Park. There was a grand slam on Friday, lots of homers on Saturday, and a guy making his professional debut in the majors for the Reds on Sunday. After watching this first homestand against some high-...

Gomes Blast Salvages Opening Series with Cardinals
Posted on 9 Apr 2010 by Dave Allen.
The pitching of Bronson Arroyo and the clutch hitting of Jonny Gomes led the Reds to a 2-1 win over the Cardinals Thursday afternoon at Great American Ball Park. The win salvaged the series for Cincinnati, who looked bad in dropping the first two games of the season to St. Louis, 11-6 and 6-3. The fifth-largest crowd in GABP history (42.493) enjoyed one of the all-time best weather days in Ope...

Reds Looking Good for 2010
Posted on 5 Apr 2010 by Dave Allen.
The Reds have shown steady improvement over the last three seasons and fans in Cincinnati think that this could be the year for their team. Not in the way you might think, however. Despite even MLB Network’s 30 Teams in 30 Days series labeling the Reds as the “sexy dark horse pick” to make the NL Playoffs, Queen City baseball fans don’t truly believe that the Reds will play in the posts...

Bailey looks good, Stubbs homers in Reds Win
Posted on 24 Mar 2010 by Dave Allen.
The Reds scored seven runs in their last at-bat to beat a split-squad San Francisco Giants team 10-3 in Cactus League action in Goodyear on Wednesday. They beat up on former Red Jeremy Affeldt (L, 2-1) to do it. It was a far cry from Saturday’s 6-0 loss to San Fran at Scottsdale on Saturday. With the regular season less than two weeks away, both teams went with mostly projected Opening Day st...
