Deep Blues
Posted on 12 Sep 2011 by Patrick McLellan.
As many teams added to their rosters via free agency and trades the first week of July, the Blues stood idle as they continued their ownership quest. Blues nation was going to have to (once again) “wait until next year” while cash strapped Dave Checketts and soon to be ex-Blues owners Towerbrook Capitol were not willing to partake in the frenzy that saw millions of dollars thrown at free ag...

Bad change costs Caps
Posted on 2 May 2011 by Dennis Patchett.
Another tight game. A game the Washington Capitals had prepared for since mid-December, when coach Bruce Boudreau overhauled the Capitals style of play. The Caps limited the Tamp Bay Lightening to just 23 shots in over 66 minutes. Limiting shot attempts is the recipe for success within the Caps system. The Caps even rallied to score the game tying goal, late in the third. With Michal...

Full speed ahead – Caps win 9th in a row!
Posted on 15 Mar 2011 by Dennis Patchett.
What can stop the Washington Capitals? The team seemingly isn't letting down, post the trade deadline, and after several key injuries have piled up. Nichlas Backstrom, Jason Arnott, Mike Green, Tom Poti and Semyon Varlamov are all out due to injury. But the Caps juggernaut continues to pour it on. The Caps have won 9 straight games! Tonight, the Caps took down the Montreal Canadiens 4-...

Resolve pushes Capitals past Blues 3-2
Posted on 3 Mar 2011 by Dennis Patchett.
The Washington Capitals were down twice in tonight's win over the St. Louis Blues… down, but never out. The Caps came back from 1-0 and 2-1 deficits to beat the Blues 3-2. Jason Arnott provided another timely point as he picked up the game winning goal at 14:41 in the 3rd period. Scott Hannon (first goal in 118 games) and Nicklas Backstrom each scored in the second period. Alex ...

New Sens Third Jersey and the next Sens GM could be?
Posted on 3 Mar 2011 by Mark Jasper.
The new GM of the Ottawa Senators could be the current Assistant GM of the Nashville Predators Paul Fenton. Sens owner Eugene Melnyk has already reached out to Fenton through a few close friends. In due time, Melnyk will ask for permission to interview Fenton. I am told Fenton is at the top of Melnyk's list to replace current GM Bryan Murray. Murray will be kept on as Vice-President as ...

Ovechkin highlight goal lifts Caps 2-1 over the Islanders in OT
Posted on 1 Mar 2011 by Dennis Patchett.
The Washington Capitals beat the New York Islanders 2-1 in overtime. Brooks Laich scored with under a minute to go in regulation and Alex Ovechkin scored on a back hand finish after a mad dash through, what seemed, was the entire Islanders team (bench included)! The three trade deadline acquisitions fit in very nicely from the drop of the puck. Marco Sturm (picked up off of waivers) had a ...

Caps fill 2nd line center need with Arnott
Posted on 28 Feb 2011 by Dennis Patchett.
The Caps appear to have picked up Jason Arnott for David Steckel (my OSU guy!). HUGE! We will miss you Stecks, but as I speculated, Arnott is the guy the Caps needed – Here's to a an exciting Stanley Cup run!

NHL Trade Deadline Live Blog
Posted on 28 Feb 2011 by Corey Krakower.
3:35pm – Looks like other than maybe a couple of more deals, NHL GMs are done for the day, and for that matter, are done until June. If more trades break I will report them. Thanks for stopping by! 3:31pm – Haven't reported any minor league deals, but I will now because it involves the Habs! Canadiens have traded Brett Festerling (acquired from the Ducks in Lapierre trade) to Atlant...

Down to the wire on trade deadline
Posted on 28 Feb 2011 by Dennis Patchett.
The Washington Capitals picked 32 year old Marco Sturm off of waivers, adding additional speed to the club. The recently well traveled Sturm has been on a roller coaster, of sorts, this year. He began the year in Boston, was traded to Los Angeles, played 17 games before suffering a knee injury. Sturm tallied 5 goals and 4 assists in 17 games with the Kings. It appears last ditch efforts...

Devils Trade Deadline Gameplan
Posted on 21 Feb 2011 by Matt Pellicane.
With the way the New Jersey Devils have been playing as of late, they have gone from looking like sellers at the trade deadline to instituting a hold pattern on the trade front. The Devils are only 10 points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern conference, and their strong second half run looks like it might keep the team together. There has recently been a rumor flying aro...

Should Arnott Inherit the “C”?
Posted on 6 Dec 2010 by Mike Luciano.
The leadership quality of Devil's captain Jamie Langenbrunner has been questioned since last year's mid-season slide, a trend that's worsened as it crossed into this year's campaign. At this point in the season, Langenbrunner's been as ineffective as most of the players on this team have been with only three goals and eleven points in eighteen games, going a minus ten. As captain, there's adde...

Going Local
Posted on 3 Sep 2010 by Chris Rydburg.
Yesterday marked a historic day in Nashville Predator's history. The local ownership group now owns more than 95% of franchise shares. I repeat, local businessmen own 95% of the Nashville Predators. While this blog could cover all the little details and misconceptions about this purchase, I have confidence that the committed fans are familiar enough with the situation to know all the details. ...
