Orioles’ Starting Pitching Worse This Season, But Bullpen Improves Over Last Year
Posted on 2 Oct 2011 by Alex Van Rees.
Expectations entering this season were very high for the Baltimore Orioles after they signed big name free agents like designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero, shortstop J.J. Hardy, third baseman Mark Reynolds and closer Kevin Gregg. Jake Arrieta was 10-8 with a 5.05 ERA in 22 games (67 earned runs in 119.1 innings). But, for a 14th consecutive season and the first full year in the Showalter era, t...

Orioles Magic Looks Like Witchcraft in KC
Posted on 6 May 2011 by Sven Jenkins.
The Orioles dropped two of three to the Royals this week after winning two consecutive series vs. both Sox teams. The Royals capitalized on poor outings from Brad Bergesen and Chris Tillman, two starters that are certainly headed in the wrong direction for the O’s. Bergesen surrendered four runs on Tuesday night and left the game after five innings. The Baltimore offense put some runs up ...

O’s Pitching Bests Red Sox
Posted on 29 Apr 2011 by Sven Jenkins.
The Orioles entered their mid-week series with the Red Sox as losers of two of their last 13 games. Meanwhile, the Sox were coming off a four-game sweep of the Angels that included two shutouts. The O’s are already 0-4 against the hated 1st place Yankees and desperately needed a couple of W’s to stay close to .500. Thanks to Zach Britton and Jeremy Guthrie, they did just that. Britton ...

The organization is currently loaded with young arms and they will be the key to the next several years of O’s baseball. 2011 will give us our first real taste of what these kids might do. If we’re lucky enough, we could be looking at a Rays or Reds – esque pitching staff. Rotation Jeremy Guthrie Bri...

Jays Bring Back Encarnacion, Lose Others
Posted on 16 Dec 2010 by Ben Fisher.
Hands up those of you who thought that the Blue Jays would opt to welcome back free agents Jason Frasor and Edwin Encarnacion. Since I clearly can’t see how many of you have raised your hands, I’ll safely assume that few – if any – of you called it. I sure didn’t. Both men were brought back with relatively little risk – Frasor at a modest salary which arbitration will determine and...

The Series Rewind: Jays drop to fourth in the AL East after Bosox sweep
Posted on 29 Apr 2010 by Ben Fisher.
The Breakdown: After winning their first four games against AL East opposition, the Blue Jays (10-12) have now dropped their past five, including three tough home losses to the Red Sox. With the three losses at home, the Jays are just 4-9 at Rogers Centre this year. Fortunately, no one’s been there to witness their poor showing. My Thoughts: The bullpen is getting the bulk of the blame for t...
