Swept, A Sweep, and Heading for Home
Posted on 12 Apr 2012 by Stephanie Geosits.
After a fairly atrocious start in which the Yankees were swept by the Rays in a three-game set in Tampa, they rebounded by returning the favor to Buck Showalter's Orioles. With an even .500 record, New York returns to the Bronx for the 2012 home opener on Friday. The usual pomp and circumstance will be on tap, and Jorge Posada will have the honor of throwing out the first pitch. Hiroki Kuroda...

Yes, Yogi, It’s Over
Posted on 7 Oct 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
Game 5 of the ALDS did not turn out as the Yankees or their fans had hoped or expected, but when you leave 11 men stranded and can only score on a solo homer and a bases-loaded walk, you probably don't deserve to win anyway. Post-season magic was nowhere to be found in the Bronx as the Tigers defeated New York 3-2. The Yankees out-hit Detroit 10 to eight but certainly not when it mattered. Ivan...

Tim Wakefield FINALLY Notches Career Win No. 200.
Posted on 16 Sep 2011 by "Baseball Brenda" Sepanek.
For those of you living in a cave, Tim Wakefield became the oldest and only active player in baseball, to record 200 career wins on Tuesday night in front of a very dedicated and patient crowd at Fenway Park. The key word in that run-on sentence is patient. Red Sox Nation waited for this monumental win since the end of July (47 days to be exact). It certainly gives meaning to the phrase, “...

Jesus Montero Turns Heads
Posted on 10 Sep 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
Considering he is a 21-year-old Yankees' September callup, Jesus Montero is attracting a lot of attention. In just six games, he has 3 HR to his credit and sports an absolutely ridiculous slugging percentage of .800. He's averaging one run and RBI per game. He's walked twice, but has also struck out four times in 20 ABs. Montero is the fifth-ranked prospect in all of baseball (and the top ...

It’s Getting Ugly in the Universe
Posted on 29 Aug 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
New York has endured a hurricane and an earthquake in the past few days. Some would say that indicates the end of times. Not quite, but it is somewhat symbolic for what the Yankees have been going through – a lot of anxiety, tumult and turmoil. First off, Joe Girardi is NOT in a good mood. Lately he's been jawing at umpires and he was absolutely fuming at how MLB rescheduled the games wit...

Yankees or Red Sox: Who Wins the AL East
Posted on 10 Aug 2011 by Adrian Fedkiw.
This week on our PSB Baseball radio show I spoke with Brenda Sepanak (Red Sox Writer) and Stephanie Geosits (Yankees Writer) to discuss their recent three game series and what each team must do to win the division. http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/audioPop.jsp?episodeId=521659&cmd=apop

Trade Winds Blow Past Bombers
Posted on 3 Aug 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
The surprising news out of the Bronx at the trade deadline was that there was no news. Brian Cashman sat back and didn't make any moves. I think this was a smart decision. The Yankees are in a good position to make the post-season, although they currently trail Boston by a game. They are very protective of their minor league talent, and, let's be honest, no one on the market was that attractiv...

So What Changed?
Posted on 18 Jun 2011 by Brendan Sennott.
As you know I took a week look hiatus from this ball club after the colossal egg they layed against the Red Sox last week at Yankee Stadium. I was tired of the listless at bats, the swinging for the downs, the lousy defense, and the genuine disinterest. A little birdie told me that after the Red Sox debacle the Yanks won 6 out of 7 against the Indians and Rangers and the o...

Time for Some Home Cookin’ !
Posted on 7 Jun 2011 by Brendan Sennott.
The Yankees game back from that gauntlet of a West Coast Trip going 6-3. The games they lost were to opposing pitchers Michael Pineda, Felix Hernandez and Jered Weaver. New York had the lead in each of those ballgames and lost the first 2 games of the this trip. I will take 6 and 3 in a heartbeat. The Yanks are 33-24, good enough for first place in the A.L. East by 1 game. Hard...

Mo Makes Mo History

Mariano Rivera is a marvel. His 16-year career, spent entirely in a Yankees uniform, has resulted in 572 saves and 75 wins and counting. On Wednesday, he appeared in his 1,000th game, the 15th pitcher to do so and the first to do it with one team. His save in the victory over the Blue Jays gave the Yankees a hair's breadth lead over Boston by half a game. As of Thursday, Tampa is 1.5 games out,...

0-fer Jorge’s Sake
Posted on 16 May 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
The veteran Yankee catcher-turned-DH's ask out of the lineup on Saturday did little to detract from the fact that the Bombers got swept by the Red Sox in a three-game set over the weekend. Tampa Bay now leads the AL East, and New York, by two games with Boston one game behind. Jorge Posada's decline this season has been painful to watch and even worse for a proud athlete to endure. His average ...

New Colon Smells Like Winning
Posted on 21 Apr 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
The Yankees turned to Bartolo Colon on Wednesday night to make a spot start in Toronto in place of the ailing Phil Hughes and hoped that the old dog remembered all his tricks. He surprised everyone, including himself, earning his first win in almost two years, after sitting out the entire 2010 season. The veteran righty made it through 6 2/3 innings and struck out seven in allowing two earned r...
