Sharks Stay Hot on Road Trip
Posted on 26 Oct 2011 by Cole.
He is not your ordinary Joe. “Little Joe” Pavelski is playing extroadinary hockey throughout the first 7 games of the season, and is feeling good after leading the Sharks (4-3) to a 3-2 win with San Jose's final two goals to increase his season total to six. The Sharks got out to an early 1-0 lead after a short-handed goal by Logan Couture set up by San Jose's new aqusition Martin H...

For Better or For Worse?
Posted on 23 Oct 2011 by Matt Preston.
History can be fickle. For a subject that should be completely factual, history is littered with opinion that can tell the same story in a variety of different ways. Whenever the San Jose Sharks are in town, as they were on Saturday night, handing the Boston Bruins yet another loss this young season, the game itself has always taken a backseat to the historical revisionism of the Joe Thornton T...

San Jose Sharks Summer Playbook
Posted on 30 Jun 2011 by Christopher Tran.
The San Jose Sharks have already secured their biggest need of the summer—a first pairing defensemen. Mark the date: June 26—the day the Sharks acquired defenseman, Brent Burns. This pickup wasn’t without significant cost; in return the Sharks gave the Wild a budding, but inconsistent, Devin Setoguchi, last year’s first-round draft choice Charlie Coyle, and their 2011 first-round pi...

To Dive or Not to Dive?
Posted on 9 May 2011 by Mika Oehling.
Watching the San Jose-Detroit game on Sunday night was entertaining, but probably not for the reason it should have been. True, watching the Red Wings heroics was incredible, as every time they seemed down, they got back up and rallied hard, seemingly while nobody was looking. Magic from Datsyuk was clearly the difference-maker on the night, as he one-handedly took his team onto his shoulders a...

First Round Preview: Kings vs. Sharks
Posted on 11 Apr 2011 by Eric Cooney.
The Kings went from being the 4th team to clinch a seed in the West this season to a 7th seed heading into the post-season. Their fall from grace coincided pretty closely to the losses of top two scorers Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams. The Kings will have to make up for those losses with a full team effort against a really talented Sharks team. (more…)

Sharks Split Games on the Road
Posted on 16 Mar 2011 by Alex Wasserstrom.
Just prior to puck-drop against the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday night, I tweeted that I was a little surprised to see Antti Niemi get the start in net for the San Jose Sharks. I felt as though he was due for an “off” night, being his 25th consecutive start, and that we'd might see Antero Niittymaki between the pipes. Sure, playing in Chicago against the team he went the distance wi...

Sharks shutdown the Bruins
Posted on 6 Feb 2011 by Jim Mulligan.
Outside of Phil Kessel, the ex-Bruin that the fans look forward to seeing the most is Joe Thornton. Including yesterday's 2-0 blanking of the B's, the three times Jumbo Joe has returned to Boston, his Sharks have always come out on the winning end. “It is just a win. Maybe the first time I was here, you wanted to win the first one. But now it is just any other road game, I think....

Bruins host Sharks

It's not as big as Kesselmania but it's generally exciting when Joe Thornton returns to Boston. The Sharks enter winning 6 of their last 7 and a modest 2 game win streak. Today is the first of a six game road trip for San Jose. Next up the Caps, Blue Jackets, Devils, Panthewrs and Preds. Leading their teams out were Tim Thomas and Antti Neimi so we will look for them to start

MONEY IS POWER
Posted on 9 Jan 2011 by Dave Frederick.
Let me begin by quoting a great American, Gordon Gekko. “Greed, for lack of a better word, is good”. At some point, the Blues must adhere to these words of wisdom and take the advice of this Wall Street felon. Note to Blues ownership, get greedy and obsess about winning a Stanley Cup. But first, let's dive into some of the real issues the Bluenote are experiencing. Anybody...

Mid-Season
Posted on 8 Jan 2011 by Alex Wasserstrom.
Thursday night's 3-0 loss to the Buffalo Sabers marked the 6th time the Sharks have been shutout this season. At 21-15-5 the Sharks are sitting at 6th in the conference and 3rd in their division. Both the conference and division are extremely tight, with little sign of that changing but that was to be expected as per my season preview (except for Dallas playing as well as they have). Unsatisfi...

Gameday: Sharks vs Oilers
Posted on 21 Dec 2010 by Alex Wasserstrom.
With both the San Jose Sharks and Edmonton Oilers playing to 6-3-1 records in their last ten games, youthful exuberance will be the theme to tonight's match-up. Rookie standouts Taylor Hall, Logan Couture, Jordan Eberle, Magnus Paajarvi, and Linus Omark will surely dazzle the crowd in their continued bids for the Calder. In this being their third meeting of the season, the Sharks have taken both...

Sharks “Beat LA”, 6-3
Posted on 16 Nov 2010 by Eric Cooney.
The Sharks broke the Kings 6 game winning streak, winning 6-3 at the Shark Tank on Monday amid cries of “Beat L.A.!” a la the Boston Celtics in their attempt to beat the Lakers this past year. The Kings struggled in all areas they usually excel at and the talented Sharks took advantage of it. (more…)
