Wall’s Wizards Edge Cousin’s Kings, 136-133 in OT
Posted on 11 Jan 2011 by Robert Bode.
After another road loss to Charlotte on Saturday, Washington returned home to face Sacramento, one of the few teams with less wins than the Wizards. Despite the freezing rain and snow outside the Verizon Center, both teams were scorching the nets with terrific shooting, with the hottest hand belonging to Nick Young. The match-up featured Kentucky rookies John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins, but it w...

Wizards Dominate Nets From Tip, Win 97-77
Posted on 7 Jan 2011 by Robert Bode.
It hasn't happened often this year, but the Washington Wizards were dominant in a 20 point win over the Nets Friday night. The Wiz took control from the outset, racing out to an 18-to-3 lead after some sharp shooting from beyond the arc by Rashard Lewis and a suffocating defense. Washington finished the first quarter with a 30-to-13 lead, as Lewis scored 11 of his 16 points in the first, while ...

Rashard Lewis’ Debut in Loss to Bulls
Posted on 22 Dec 2010 by Robert Bode.
Newly acquired Wizard Rashard Lewis didn't have the best debut at the Verizon Center. Washington lost to the Bulls 87-80 and Lewis scored just 8 points on 4-of-10 shooting – including 0-of-5 from three with five fouls in 14 minutes. Overall, it was an ugly offensive game for both teams. Fitting to see Donovan McNabb sitting court-side. Even as Kirk Hinrich played one of his best games...

Wiz Finally Trade Arenas, Rebuilding Officially Begins
Posted on 19 Dec 2010 by Robert Bode.
The news was enough to cover up the embarrassing last minute loss to the Miami Heat: Gilbert Arenas had been traded. It really didn't matter what the Wizards got in return for their former superstar (Rashard Lewis was a decent return, as I'll talk about more later) but the fact that Ernie Grunfeld was able to deal Arenas at all was a victory for the franchise. Sure, the Wiz still can't win a ...

Wizards Keep Losing, and Future Looks Bleak
Posted on 15 Dec 2010 by Robert Bode.
I completely overrated this team coming into the season and right now I can't believe I actually thought this franchise was heading in the right direction. Losers in nine of their last ten games, Washington's bleak playoff hopes have been all but dashed – in December. The roster has some talent, but it doesn't seem like anyone knows what direction the team is heading. There are concerns w...

Knicks/ Wizards- 5 Things
Posted on 11 Dec 2010 by Jordan Lauterbach.
It was a fitting way to end the most recent stretch of games. The Knicks closed out the “easy portion” (well, for now) of the schedule with a tidy 101 – 95 win over the Wizards on Friday night. It was the end of the cake walk and the beginning of “the test,” but more on that later in the Knick/Wizards edition of the 5 things…. 1. 30+ again for STAT – I really hate that nickname,...

Wiz Get Burned by Suns in Phoenix, Still Winless on Road
Posted on 6 Dec 2010 by Robert Bode.
After a pathetic defensive performance against the Toronto Raptors, the Washington Wizards rebounded with a great showing on that side of the court in a 83-79 win over the Portland Trailblazers. Well, the defense was lacking again Sunday night, as the Phoenix Suns put on an offensive clinic, led by Steve Nash's 20 point, 17 assist, perfect shooting display in a 125-108 win. Flip Saunders decide...

Wizards Still Winless on Road, Playoff Hopes Fading Fast
Posted on 2 Dec 2010 by Robert Bode.
It was a pathetic display Wednesday night by the Washington Wizards, trailing by 22 points at halftime to the Toronto Raptors, and really never putting up much of a fight. The numbers are embarrassing. Toronto shot 58% from the field, including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc. The Raptors out-rebounded the Wizards 52 to 30, and seven Toronto players scored in double-figures. Although I was one of t...

Wizards Can’t Complete Comeback, Lose to Magic 100-99
Posted on 27 Nov 2010 by Robert Bode.
The Washington Wizards were without John Wall for the fifth time this season, this time due to a knee injury, but an inspired team performance almost saw the Wiz pull off a huge comeback victory against the Orlando Magic. An exciting fourth quarter ended with a missed Gilbert Arenas jump shot as time expired, who couldn't duplicate the heroics of Dwight Howard, who tipped in the winning basket ...

Wiz Look Like Turkeys, Lose 11th Straight Against Hawks 116-96
Posted on 26 Nov 2010 by Robert Bode.
For the first time this season, John Wall and Gilbert Arenas were in the starting lineup together. However, with Al Thornton out due to injury, Kirk Hinrich joined Wall and Arenas to make for a very small backcourt, and the Hawks took full advantage. I can't understand why Flip Saunders decided to go with Hinrich instead of Nick Young, who has been on a good run of form recently, but the move b...

Wizards Grow Up, and Finally Get Lucky, in OT Win Over Sixers
Posted on 23 Nov 2010 by Robert Bode.
An unlikely 116-114 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers has the looks of being the game that jump started the Wizards' 2010-11 season. Down 52-38 at halftime, and trailing by 17 points in the second half, it looked like it was another tough loss for Washington, even as John Wall returned from injury. But an explosive second half led by Wall's 25 points, including three free throws to tie the ga...

Wiz Blow Late Lead, Remain Winless on the Road
Posted on 21 Nov 2010 by Robert Bode.
This is why the NBA regular season is so frustrating. The Wizards crushed the Raptors Tuesday night, then beat the Grizzlies on Friday, both without John Wall. On Saturday, Memphis beat Miami and on Sunday Toronto took out Boston, who crushed Washington on Wednesday. Those results don't make a lot of sense, and either does Washington blowing a late lead against a poor Detroit squad, fallin...
