Texans struggle to win late
Posted on 17 Oct 2010 by Jon Lopez.
About half way through the third quarter, I was thinking about what I was going to write after the game. It was gonna be something like- “The defense is pitiful, the offense can't win by itself. Well, the defense does suck(mainly the secondary) and the offense can carry the team. You can't give up 400yds per game and expect to contend for a championship. For those who might have thought t...

U.T. v.s. Nebraska
Posted on 14 Oct 2010 by Jon Lopez.
We've had some time to get over the loss to OU. Now, UT heads to Nebraska. Crap. The Longhorns defense showed some good things against OU, but the Cornhusckers run a much different offense. They run the ball ALOT. 4th best in the nation. think about the game against UCLA and multiply that by 10. Thats what could happen Saturday. Don't forget about Nebraska's defense either ( just over 12 ppg g...

Texans bounce back
Posted on 4 Oct 2010 by Jon Lopez.
Sunday wasn't easy but it was a solid victory. After last week the Texans needed a win to keep their confidence up. The Texans showed good depth yesterday with Foster beched for the first quarter for off the field reasons. Slaton as usual is a good threat in the shourt passing game and kick returns, as long as he dosen't step out of bounds. Derrick Ward had a nice strong touchdown run to open t...

UT and OU
Posted on 30 Sep 2010 by Jon Lopez.
Saturday is the Red River Rivalry game. What's usually a shootout could be an execution for UT. The first quarter is huge. UT can't lay an egg, OU will put up at least 14 points and UT can't afford to be in a hole early. It's time for Gilbert to step his game up; he has no room for error Saturday. If Gilbert can mix short passes with shots down the field with a good effort from Fozzy, UT could ...

Texans Lose to Rival Cowboys
Posted on 27 Sep 2010 by Jon Lopez.
Coming off a huge overtime victory over the Redskins, the Texans seemed to hve nothing left in the tank for the Cowboys. Arian Foster had an outstanding game. Rushing for 106 yards at 6.7 yards per carry but a costly fumble in the fourth quarter cast a shadow over his day. Schaub's two second half interceptions capped off what was just a bad day for the offense. The defense didn't show up. The...

Embarrassing
Posted on 26 Sep 2010 by Jon Lopez.
I can be wrong……………………………from time to time. Most of us have heard of the game, “slap the bull”, right? Well, UCLA walked into Austin and punched Bevo right in the mouth. UT had the 9th ranked rushing defense in the country coming into Saturday. They gave up 264 rushing yards. Holy Crap. Maybe if UT hadn't turned the b...

UT v.s. UCLA
Posted on 23 Sep 2010 by Jon Lopez.
With the biggest game of the year next week, the Longhorns need to improve their offense this week against UCLA. UCLA is one of the worst offensive teams in the country, so the defense shouldn't have too much trouble, considering how they played last week. There are still a number of questions and problems that need to be fixed. If Newton is unable to play, then Whittaker and Johnson need to g...

That was interesting

As much as I wanted to write this last night, I wanted to wait and digest what the heck I saw yesterday. The first half was garbage. The defense didn't show up. McNabb was on fire. Donovan picked the secondary apart and the 20-7 halftime score had the game looking like a potential blowout. I said that Arian wasn't gonna run for 200 yards every week but he could do better than what he did in the...

It was ugly but its a win
Posted on 19 Sep 2010 by Jon Lopez.
Well that was an ugly performance, from both teams. Before I touch on the offense, I have to touch on the defense. The Longhorn defense just held a 400-plus yard Red Raider offense in check. Potts was a good 21 for 35, but for only 158 yards and 1 touchdown. Shutting down Tech's run game was a positive for the Longhorns, mainly because they held Tech to negative 14 yards. Gideon finally gets re...

Showdown in Lubbock
Posted on 16 Sep 2010 by Jon Lopez.
Saturday night, the Longhorns will head into Lubbock wanting to exact some revenge for that stinging loss back in 2008. The Longhorns maybe favored coming into the game but the Texas Tech passing attack is still as potent as ever which could force UT to finally rely on Gilbert to make plays down the field. Fozzy Whittaker will be a big key in helping the defense by keeping Potts on the sideline...
