One Last Game
Posted on 24 Nov 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
The 2010 football season comes to a end on Friday for CMU, and while the year has been mostly a huge disappointment, the Chippewas last game against MAC West rival Toledo gives CMU a chance to end the year on a positive note. CMU is playing better the last few weeks, as they beat arch rival Western Michigan on senior day, and then lost by one at Navy 38-37, when they went for two and the win in...

Notre Dame Football: 5 Bowl Scenarios
Posted on 17 Nov 2010 by Jordan Lauterbach.
Not to get ahead of ourselves, but as I did my morning link peruse I came across potential bowl match ups for the Irish. This, of course (I feel like this is required to write), is assuming Notre Dame beats Army this Saturday at Yankee Stadium. The far less likely scenario of a loss to Army and a win at USC would also work, but…I mean….come on…. Anyway, here are five sceanario...

More Then Just One Win
Posted on 6 Nov 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
From the outside CMU's 26-22 win over Western last night was just a team having a tough year getting one win, no big deal, to have three wins instead of two, but for the Chippewa players and fans it means much much more. CMU had lost 6 games in a row and needed a win in the worst way, he comes Western, their biggest rival, on senior day for a game shown nationally on ESPNU. WMU had lost 4 gam...

Throw the Records Out

CMU football has not had the season they wanted and the season their fans expected, and after 6 losses in a row they sit at 2-7. On Friday night CMU will host their final home game of the year against their biggest rival Western Michigan. As of now the weather looks like it will be normal November football in the Midwest, a high of 38 and snow showers. CMU and WMU have played in some bad weathe...

CMU Basketball Media Day
Posted on 27 Oct 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
A excitement that has not be around for years is all around CMU basketball this year. Is may be because the new event center will be opening on December 1st when the men take on Temple. Or because the men have won back to back MAC West titles, or because they have the highest rated recruiting class ever, lead by Coach Zeigler's son Trey, rating #26 in the country by scout, or is it because for ...

Someone Has to Win
Posted on 27 Oct 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
CMU and Bowling Green have both lost 5 games in a row, CMU is 2-6, 1-4 in conference, while Bowling Green is 1-7, 0-4 in conference. Both teams need a win badly when they meet at 3:30 in Mt Pleasant on Saturday, and the good news is, one of these teams has to win this game. For CMU it is a must win. They have lost two home games in a row, more games then they lost at home the last two years com...

Huskies Run Over CMU
Posted on 24 Oct 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
The first half wasn't too bad, besides the three turnovers. CMU fought hard and was playing ok, keeping the game close down only 9-7 at halftime. Sadly for the CMU football team their was a second half. NIU outscored the guest Chippewa's 24-0 in the second half to win easily 33-7. CMU is now 2-6 on the year, and 1-4 in conference play. To understand how bad that is, the last four years CMU has ...

Teams Going in Different Directions
Posted on 21 Oct 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
5 weeks ago CMU was 2-1 coming off a big 52-14 victory on the road at EMU. NIU was 1-2 after losing a tough game to Illinois. Both MAC teams had road games at Big Ten teams that next week, NIU winning at Minnesota and CMU losing a close game at Northwestern. Fans didn't think much of it at the time but that week has defined the season so far for the two MAC West rivals. CMU has been taking a no...

A Unhappy Homecoming
Posted on 17 Oct 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
For several minutes after the game I couldn't move. After CMU came back to tie the score at 20 in the fourth quarter and had the ball with under 2 minutes left to give themselves a chance to win, they had to punt and Miami of Ohio got the ball back with one timeout and just over a minute. The CMU defense did well to force a 3rd and 13 with 19 seconds left, and then it happened. Something that m...

Closing Games, Opening Doors
Posted on 17 Oct 2010 by Jordan Lauterbach.
Closing is the hardest thing to do in any individual sport. Not only does a team have to take a lead and hold it, they have to make sure that all possible opposite momentum is eliminated. It’s ending the game before the clock does. It’s, to a degree, controlling the uncontrollable. Some teams do it well; some can’t do it at all. Notre Dame showed on Saturday that they can close gam...

CMU-Miami Ohio preview
Posted on 14 Oct 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
CMU has lost three games in a row and are in major need of a win. This week they welcome the Redhawks on Miami of Ohio in to town for homecoming at CMU. Some good news for CMU in this game is CMU has won their last five homecoming games, they have won 18 games in a row against MAC teams from Ohio and are also 18-1 in their last 19 games against teams from the MAC East. That's the good news. The...

CMU-Va Tech Preview
Posted on 7 Oct 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
After a disappointing loss it is nice to have a easier week to try to regroup your team. Coach Dan Enos and Central Michigan sadly does not have that advantage. After a terrible home lossto Ball State CMU goes on the road to Va Tech, who seems to finally be playing like most thought they would all year. It seems like CMU has this game at the wrong time of the season. After the James Madison los...
