STARS SUMMER PLAYBOOK
Posted on 30 Jun 2011 by Travis Currie.
This could be one of the more active off-seasons in recent years for the Stars. First a new coach in Glen Gulutzan, fingers crossed on good news on the ownership front, and GM Joe will actually be forced to be somewhat of a player in the free agent market. Not that he's rolling through downtown Dallas with the top down screaming out “Money aint a thang!', to quote Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri...

New York Rangers Summer Playbook
Posted on 29 Jun 2011 by Margaret DeJesus.
Rangers' General Manager Glen Sather is like a kid in a candy store each July when free agents hit the market. He's got a knack for putting his faith [and checkbook] in the wrong name brands though and instead brought bubblegum busts to Broadway at overinflated expense. Wade Redden, Scott Gomez and Chris Drury are just a mere sampling. The Rangers have roughly $22 million to dish out for sal...

Thrashers to Winnipeg, Effect on Kings?
Posted on 31 May 2011 by Eric Cooney.
So it was made official this morning that the Atlanta Thrashers have been sold and are moving north to Winnipeg. The organization will have its hands full over the next season and beyond as they attempt to prove that a small Canadian market is better than the large Atlanta market. The way things were going in Atlanta, I have no doubt that Winnipeg will have more enthusiasm for the club than...

Poor Attendance, Poor Teams or Poor Planning?
Posted on 14 May 2011 by Christopher Rowe.
In case no one noticed, Major League Baseball fans have been staying away from the ballpark in droves. Well, to clarify, fans have been avoiding certain ballparks while packing into record sellouts in other venues. Is it the economy? Perhaps it is the exorbitant cost of the average ticket plus parking plus concessions? Family night at the ballpark used to be a fun and affordable experience. The...

Boras squashes any talk of Hosmer extension
Posted on 13 May 2011 by Ryan Riordan.
In his first week of baseball at the Major League level, Kansas City's Eric Hosmer has lived up the hype and then some. The top prospect homered for the second time in as many days Thursday, helping the Royals take two of three from the New York Yankees in Yankee Stadium. Hosmer is now hitting .333 with a 1.158 OPS in his six games with the club, which led Kansas City Star columnist Sam Melling...

Blog #200! The NHL Had It Coming!
Posted on 25 Mar 2011 by Shane Hoopfer.
Two Hundredth blog eh? I think that gives me a great excuse to go on a rant that should cover a fair bit of the NHL! But lets start with the team I cover. The Calgary Flames! It's pretty cut and dry for the Flames. Win all six and you probably get in. Anything less than that and I'll have extra time to focus on the Coyotes errr Jets. The good news for the Flames is that four of the six games th...

Fantasy Hoops Stock Market Volume 3
Posted on 14 Jan 2011 by Warren Shaw.
It's a New Year and people are focused on losing weight, working out and improving themselves. I see no reason why this new outlook can't be applied to your fantasy teams as well, the improving part that is. The All-Star break is fast approaching and many players pick their games up after the extended rest. Lets take a look at some guys you should buy low and sell high as we head into the 2nd h...

Twins lock in Pavano for two more years
Posted on 7 Jan 2011 by TS.
The Twins solidified their starting rotation for the upcoming season by re-signing veteran right hander Carl Pavano to a two-year deal that is likely to be worth about $9 million a year. Pavano had originally been seeking a three-year deal when he hit the free agent market in October, but apparently couldn't muster that on the open market. As good as Pavano has been the past two years, the stai...

Time Is Ticking, But Is It a Concern?
Posted on 22 Dec 2010 by Jim Mancari.
Yesterday, the Mets announced they would not make any moves until January. Sandy Alderson and company have decided to wait out the market rather than throwing their money at uncertainty. Surprisingly, several good starting pitchers are still available, yet teams appear reluctant to pull the trigger. Conventional wisdom told us that once Cliff Lee signed, the other starters would fall like domin...

“IN THE FACE…IIIINN THE FAAACE!!!!”- The Hangover
Posted on 18 Dec 2010 by Sean Eckhardt.
The New York Knicks were supposed to sign LeBron James - at least that's what fans in New York thought. They were telling anyone who would listen that LeBron would leave the “erie” Cleveland for the bright lights of New York. What was the main reasoning behind this thought? Well, it's New York, everyone wants to play in the “Big Apple!” Others simply said that n...

Reyes Signs with… Whoa Not So Much…
Posted on 17 Dec 2010 by Christopher Rowe.
Reyes is once again a free agent... with no explanation Dennys Reyes agreed Dec. 8 to a $1.1 million contract with the Phillies. Not my first choice but a passable deal to balance a bullpen devoid of portsiders. Strangely, the Phillies never formally announced the deal. It is not unusual for a few days to pass between an agreement and an official announcement, since players typically have to f...

Werth Rejects Phillies’ Arbitration Offer
Posted on 1 Dec 2010 by Christopher Rowe.
As expected, free-agent slugger Jayson Werth declined an offer of salary arbitration from the Phillies before Tuesday’s midnight deadline. Had Werth accepted arbitration, he would have become a signed player for 2011 with his salary to be determined by an arbitration panel. Instead, Werth remains a free agent, eligible to sign with any team for best market value. While the Phillies remain in ...
