Duke-UNLV ’91: NCAA’s Greatest
Posted on 10 Feb 2013 by Steven Keys.
With Super Bowl and Signing Day in rear-view, we gridiron groupies can now dive into those diversions we’ve been giving the short-shrift, the neglected middle-children in our sporting family: hockey and basketball. College hockey’s at full glide while the NHL’ers are still getting their ice-legs underneath ’em. Fans don‘t realize how hard it is to fisticuff on frozen water. It’s not...

NCAA Rule Violation “Rocks” Penn State
Posted on 23 Jun 2011 by Stephanie Geosits.
With all the scandalous news coming out of Columbus, Joe Paterno must have been feeling neglected, because apparently the Nittany Lions head coach snuck a peek at an unsupervised workout last week (that's a no-no). Penn State will report the incident to the NCAA. In a taping of ESPN's “Difference Makers: Life Lessons with Paterno and (Duke men's basketball head coach Mike) Krzyzewski̶...

The answer to Williams could have been on Duke’s bench
Posted on 25 Mar 2011 by Chris Girandola.
Josh Hairston. Reeves Nelson. These are two names that could have made a difference in Duke's defense of Arizona's do-everything-star Derrick Williams. Duke lost to Arizona on Thursday night because Blue Devils coach Mike Krzyzewski didn't know the brilliance of Reeves Nelson and didn't look down the bench to Josh Hairston. Bookies and business-types lose sleep just thinking about it, but fans can’t get enough. Shockers aren’t the only defining tra...

Entering the 2011 NCAA Tournament, Duke once again faces the critics, who say the Blue Devils have certain deficiencies that will prevent them from repeating as champs. In fact, similar to last year, when no national analyst or writer selected Duke as the eventual winner, the Blue Devils have even more detractors this season with even less people picking them for the Final Four. The same ol...

How to get back to winning
Posted on 7 Mar 2011 by Chris Girandola.
As far out as Charlie Sheen may seem, he is correct on one point. Winning feels a whole lot better than losing. For Duke, losing to North Carolina at any point in the season stinks. But this loss this late in the season must serve as a quick learning lesson or else the Blue Devils will be caught suffering an even more disappointing defeat early in the NCAA tournament. First, Mike Krzyzewski wil...

Observations from Duke-Maryland, Round 1
Posted on 11 Jan 2011 by Chris Girandola.
The first round of the Duke-Maryland battle in the 2010-11 season was much different than the past two affairs at Cameron Indoor Stadium when the Blue Devils routed the Terrapins by 21 points last season and 41 points the season before. While the Blue Devils pulled out a 71-64 win on Sunday to extend their winning streak to 25 games, the meeting had a similar feel to the game when Duke suffer...
