After catching flak, Angels stopped chatting and finally did some dealing
Posted on 30 Nov 2011 by Bill Mahoney.
Yes, I haven't written much on the Halos lately. Not because I don't care, far from it, it's just that they had done nothing. That's not entirely true, as they did hire Matt Klentak as their assistant GM. The 31 year old whiz kid was pretty much the only news the Halos made of late. That all changed Wednesday afternoon, when the Angels sent pitcher Tyler Chatwood to the Colorado Rockies for cat...

A Game Seven Is Fitting For This World Series
Posted on 28 Oct 2011 by George Kouvalis.
Well nothing like having the World Series in your hands twice and then losing it. That's what happened in one of the most memorable games in World Series history last night in St. Louis. The Texas Rangers had two 2 run leads in the late innings and could not hold on, eventually losing the Cardinals 10-9 in 11 innings, and more importantly tying the World Series at three games a piece. Even ...

Texas Toast! Redbirds On Brink of Elimination
Posted on 26 Oct 2011 by Chaz Ingram.
Maybe the Cardinals should have saved some of the 16 runs they scored against the Rangers in game 3 for the remaining games of the World Series. Since that explosion which now seem like eons ago the Cardinals have managed to score only 2 runs in the last 18 innings blowing quality starts by Edwin Jackson and ace Chris Carpenter. Rangers' relief pitcher Neftali Feliz and catcher Mike N...

Cardinals Draw First Blood, Lead WS 1-0
Posted on 20 Oct 2011 by Chaz Ingram.
Cardinals right fielder Lance Berkman drives in two runs with basehit in game one of World Series Given the fact that starting pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals and Texas Rangers did not exactly shut down their opponents in their League Championship Series one may be inclined to think that the 2011 World Series between the two teams will be an all out slugfest. If game one was any indication...

Angels close to decision on their new GM. Or are they?
Posted on 15 Oct 2011 by Bill Mahoney.
I felt a true sigh of relief when I heard Bill Stoneman was in charge of finding the Angels next General Manager. I'm sure he'll waver on his decision, eventually being unable to pull the trigger. Good to see the Vernon Wells effect has cost at least 3 Halo executives their jobs. I promise you that if Wells hit 280, with 25 and 90, there would have been no change in the executive hierarchy. No...

2 games, 2 beat downs by the Rangers.
Posted on 17 Aug 2011 by Bill Mahoney.
Ballgame!! Through 2 games the Rangers have 31 hits, and 15 runs. The Halos have 18 and 7. Let's be honest, if your favorite team has a shot at the division leaders, and you are starting 2 guys, that between them have 25 career starts, then your team is in trouble. That's exactly what the Angels did in the first two games against the front running Texas Rangers. I used to laugh at other teams y...

Wells Gets Triumphant Return, Jays Win Series
Posted on 15 Aug 2011 by Ben Fisher.
What Happened Vernon Wells had his moment in his first return to Rogers Centre, but the Blue Jays (61-59) made sure that moment didn’t last all weekend long. After Wells homered on the first pitch he saw in his Angels’ win on Friday night, Toronto rallied to win both weekend games and claim the series. A Closer Look Up (Edwin Encarnacion): Get a game-winning, series-clinching walk-off hit a...

Juan Gone
Posted on 12 Jul 2011 by Ben Fisher.
That collective shrug you just heard came in response to the news that the Jays had parted ways with the designated-for-assignment Juan Rivera, trading him to the Los Angeles Dodgers for a player to be named later or – don't laugh – cash considerations. What does that say about Rivera that Toronto was willing to trade the 33-year old in exchange for cash considerations from a team...

Yo Adrian, stop beating up the Angels
Posted on 19 Apr 2011 by Bill Mahoney.
The Angels foray into forst place lasted less than 24 hours. The Texas Rangers blistered the boys from LA or Anaheim, 7-1. Ironically, the Rangers were led by Adrian Beltre, who as a free agent signed with Texas instead of our Halos. Anyhow, Beltre showed the Angels what they are missing by going 2-4, including a home run and 3 RBI. everybody in the Texas lineup had a hit, except 1st baseman ...

Napoli Deal a Head Scratcher
Posted on 25 Jan 2011 by Ben Fisher.
We get it, Alex Anthopoulos. Having capable, veteran arms to fall back on in the bullpen is critical, particularly for a young starting rotation whose innings will be closely monitored. But surely a power bat like Mike Napoli could have fetched more than Frank Francisco and cash, or at least had a more significant role on this Jays team. In commenting on the deal with Texas, Anthopoulos pointed...

All’s Wells that ends Wells
Posted on 21 Jan 2011 by Bill Mahoney.
News flash! The Angels are awake! That's right, your Los Ang…Whatever..Halos have made a deal, getting Vernon Wells from the Blue Jays for Juan Rivera and Mike Napoli. Wells will fill the gaping hole in centerfield. He has won 3 Gold Gloves, so defensively the Angels should be set. Offensively, I’m not completely sold. That doesn’t mean that I am not happy, but I do have reservations....

The Wells Deal: Sayonara $126 Million Man
Posted on 21 Jan 2011 by Ben Fisher.
Welcome to Toronto, Mike Napoli and (possibly) Juan Rivera. Mike, you will likely be our DH this year and Juan, you’ll get plenty of playing time in an outfield currently comprised of you, Travis Snider and Rajai Davis (yes, that’s it). Oh, and by the way, whatever you two can contribute this season is simply bonus since you guys have already helped us shed an albatross of a contract. In th...
