The Los Angeles Kings and a Miracle
Posted on 21 Feb 2012 by Sande Charles.
The phrase, “ the Kings need a miracle” is an understatement. Lately the level of play has been less than mediocre and certainly not playoff material. I think I speak for all Kings fans when I say I am emotionally drained from this rollercoaster of a season. Of course there has been the occasional glimmer of hope where I get butterflies in my stomach and think, “this is our year!R...

Chemistry Compromised?
Posted on 19 Jul 2011 by Eric Cooney.
It's fairly evident that the Kings made improvements through their off-season moves this summer. I will go further and qualify this with “on paper”, so as to not rile up anyone adamant that the Kings will still be worse than their favorite team next season. That said, the off-season additions have excited Kings fans and have us asking, “Is it October?” (more…)

All the latest NHL News & Trade Rumors
Posted on 24 Jun 2011 by Corey Krakower.
It sure seems like the NHL draft is the new trade deadline! 2 blockbuster deals were completed that rocked the hockey world today; one of which was Jeff Carter being dealt to Columbus; while the other seeing top prospect Brayden Schenn and rising star Wayne Simmonds traded from LA to Philadelphia in exchange for Mike Richards. While those are monster deals, the most plugged in hockey insiders a...

Feeling Bad for Aaron Rome
Posted on 12 Jun 2011 by Corey Krakower.
With the Vancouver Canucks 1 win away from winning a Stanley Cup, the more I think about it, the more I feel bad for Aaron Rome. Don’t get me wrong, his hit on Nathan Horton should be worthy of a suspension. It was late, it was to the head and Horton was severely injured. For me, all 3 reasons make it suspension worthy. HOWEVER, under the CURRENT rules and given recent precedent, Aaron Rome s...

Pressing Flyers Questions as Training Camp Nears
Posted on 27 Aug 2010 by Mike Santa Barbara.
With Flyers training camp only about a month away, there are plenty of questions surrounding the defending Eastern Conference Champions. Here are a few of the “now” questions, I've got plenty of stuff on the back-burner in preparation for the opening of camp. With the ruling being handed down on the Kovalchuk contract, the NHL is now examining other “similar” deals, incl...

The NHL Top 10 Nominees At Each Position Are……
Posted on 29 Jul 2010 by Trent Kondo.
This is just a summary of what I feel are the top 10 players in each category in the NHL to date. Sure there will be many arguments for and against what I have inserted here but let's take a look at what I have and see if we agree. Center: Sidney Crosby- should not be any argument here, the “kid” is hands down the best center and possibly the player in the game today. Pavel Datsyuk-...

Officiating, Flyers Lack of Urgecy Leads to Loss in Ottawa
Posted on 24 Mar 2010 by Mike Santa Barbara.
The Flyers were victims of perhaps the worst non-call of this Hockey season. Simon Gagne was cross checked face first into the boards by Anton Volchenkov, as Gagne laid on the ice, the Senators scored. Gagne attacked Volchenkov after the goal and promptly received nine minutes in penalties, which led to a seven minute power play for the Senators. The Senators were rewarded for a dirty hit that ...

Flyers Without Carter, No Time For Excuses
Posted on 23 Mar 2010 by Mike Santa Barbara.
With all the negatives pointed the Flyers direction lately one has to think they're do for something good to happen. First, they lost goaltender Michael Leighton, after losing starter Ray Emery. Leaving them with veteran Brian Boucher to lead them to the playoffs. Then word came down Monday that Jeff Carter would be out 3-4 weeks with a non-displaced fracture in his foot. Losing your leading sc...

No Post Olympic Let Down for Flyers-Yet
Posted on 11 Mar 2010 by Mike Santa Barbara.
The Flyers have come out of the Olympics firing on all cylinders. And it's no surprise that their best two players have been Mike Richards and Chris Pronger. Both still feeling the high of an Olympic Gold Medal. The Flyers 3rd and 4th lines have been contributing, even Simon Gagne has started to show signs of life. The Flyers are coming around at the right time, heading into the stretch run. Mo...

Game Five: The Turkey’s Ready Grandma!
Posted on 23 Apr 2009 by Ian Altenbaugh.
I am going to save all of the cliches for saying “Finished!” until tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some things I noticed in Game Four…. Trend Setters and Followers One disturbing trend that has developed leading up to game four has been the ridiculous amount of penalties taken by both teams. Stupid penalties, typically the result of after-the-whistle scrums that break out...

Pens/Flyers Game Two Review and the Most Physical Defenseman in Hockey
Posted on 19 Apr 2009 by Ian Altenbaugh.
In this edition of Around the Atlantic we will look at Game Two of the first round match between the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers. I will also tell you why Brooks Orpik is the most physical player in the NHL today. The Penguins dispatched of the Flyers in a dominant fashion in game two. So much so that it may be fair to suggest the Flyers only need a fork in them to confir...
