2011 Bruins Draft…Who’s next?
Posted on 23 Jun 2011 by Jim Mulligan.
It seems hard to believe that it's been a full year since we last heard Taylor versus Tyler…Seguin versus Hall. Who would Edmonton pick? Could Boston actually trade up to get the #1 overall? We all know Edmonton took Hall, the Bruins took Seguin and last year is officially history. Anyway, onto Minnesota and the 2011 NHL Entry Draft. The Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins (I do love sayin...

Hockey Canada Needs A Reality Check (Part 2)
Posted on 16 May 2011 by Kirk Butler.
Time to continue the review of Bob Nicholson`s comments following Canada`s quarter-final exit from the World Hockey Championships… When asked about players declining the invitation extended after their first (or second) round series ended Bob had the following to say… “It`s a few key players… This team was good enough to win, but with on or more players (it could have be...

Sharks Beat Nashville in OT…Again.
Posted on 9 Mar 2011 by Alex Wasserstrom.
If you look at San Jose's remaining schedule, not only are 9 of the Sharks' last 15 games against divisional opponents, but nearly all are against teams battling for a playoff spot. Additionally, San Jose's strong play has them contending for the top two seeds while most of their remaining opponents will be vying for the lower seeds – this makes matchups, like last night's against the Nas...

Senators the latest victim for the Islanders
Posted on 16 Feb 2011 by Dave Thomas.
Don't look now, but the New York Islanders are one of the hottest teams in the National Hockey League. New York won its fourth straight game Tuesday night, posting a 4-3 shootout victory over the host Ottawa Senators. Michael Grabner (leads all rookies with 25 goals on the season) continued his hot streak, notching a goal in his sixth straight game for the team from Long Island. Meantime, Rob ...

Posted on 20 Dec 2010 by Donovan Wilson.
By Donovan Wilson This week’s In The Broadcast Booth features former National Hockey League player Matthew Barnaby. The Sports Commentary had the pleasure of speaking with the popular hockey tough guy who was dubbed “the agitator” during his playing days by many players from around the league – for his uncanny ability to stir things up while on the ice and get his team going. Now in h...

Leafs Nation: The Inevitable Regulation L
Posted on 22 Oct 2010 by Mike De Petrillo.
It’s not so much the loss that leaves Leafs fans shaking their heads today – it’s the way the loss occurred. Blame the goalie? Nope, Monster played pretty good if you ask me, and the score could have been a lot worse in favour of ‘the other’ Blue Shirts if he wasn’t on his game. Can’t blame the refs. You could blame Marty Biron for standing on his head on a couple of occasions, ...

Leafs Nation: The Beat Goes On…4-0-1
Posted on 20 Oct 2010 by Mike De Petrillo.
It was bound to happen – the Leafs lost a game. I have taken shelter in my underground layer awaiting the apocalypse that is sure to come at some point before Thursday’s match-up with the Rangers… Wait, what? The Leafs still got a point? They have garnered 9 of a possible 10 available points to begin the 2010/11 season? Okay, time to release the air lock; I am coming back abov...

Leafs Nation: Strong Start at Home (The Road Awaits)
Posted on 13 Oct 2010 by Mike De Petrillo.
I finally gave up. I was the guy in the lawn chair smack dab in the middle of Maple Leafs Square outside the ACC since Toronto’s emphatic 5-1 dismantling of the Ottawa Senators Saturday night. I was finally talked down by my wife, who made the sensible point that I should hold out for a road victory before claiming my playoff seat to watch the boys in blue on the giant outdoor screen. L...

Time Has Come for Playoff Expansion says Selig
Posted on 25 Sep 2010 by Christopher Rowe.
Major League Baseball “comMESSioner” Bud Selig wants to explore expanding the postseason this winter. Several years ago, Major League Baseball formed a committee to examine expansion of the postseason among other issues (instant replay, realignment, relocation of franchises, revenue sharing, dissolution of AL vs. NL, full interleague play, etc.). Selig has brought about many changes...

Thursday Thoughts
Posted on 6 Aug 2009 by Mike Crupi.
Issues surrounding the Leafs midway through the summer. We are at the mid-point of this hockey off-season and many Leaf fans are making note of the roster, re-arranging it and coming up with line combinations, projected stats and doing all sorts of stuff to try and keep the boredom to a minimum. As well as projected line-ups, there are a few other questions that will continue to pop-up through...

Thrashers Swept In Home And Home With Caps
Posted on 8 Apr 2009 by Casey Shea.
There was something odd about last night's Thrashers/Capitals game. Both sides elected to start their young prospects between the pipes and for the most part, they played well. Ondrej Pavelec faced a ton of quality chances and remained composed and made some very nice saves to keep the Thrashers in the game. In the end, the Caps proved to be too tough once again and won by a 4-2 margin....
