Rain Delay Was Worth the Wait
Posted on 20 Aug 2012 by Marien Hornyak.
My fourth trip to Nationals Park this year turned out to be a long but exciting day. After a 2-hour and 26-minute rain delay on Sunday afternoon, Gio Gonzalez won his 16th game of the season — a team record — as the Nationals defeated the Mets, 5-2. The Nationals improved their record to 75-46 and now have a five-game lead over the Braves, who were shut out by the Dodgers, 5-0, on...

Top Five Overrated Players In New York History
Posted on 22 Jul 2012 by James Beck.
5) Jose Reyes- For a man to have only of had 2 good seasons he was sure thought of highly by Mets fans and other players. For a lead off man his OBP was average to low at best. And the lack of focus on the field was horrible. He could never stay healthy and was known more for stupid handshakes then for winning. He was non existent in the playoffs as well as the collapses. 4) Marc Stall- Is ...

Dickey also recorded a new record thirteen strikeouts against the O's. Twenty-four of the twenty-seven outs for the Orioles came were either caused by a strikeout or a groundout. From The Stretch: Some quick thoughts on Cain’s Perfect Game
Posted on 14 Jun 2012 by Connor Callaghan.
The first perfect game in the history of the Giants Well what a night to start. I'm still trying to digest what I just saw. Where do I even begin when every Giants fan was watching this game so intently? Well when I started watching the game and got a couple innings in, I thought it would be all about the Giants offense. Let's see, we scored two in the first, then three in the second, and anoth...

“Hope and Change” the “Nationals” Way
Posted on 9 Sep 2011 by Marien Hornyak.
This has been an up-and-down week for the Washington Nationals. Tough losses, games played in lousy weather (with rainouts and rain delays), the debut of several young players and the return of pitcher Stephen Strasburg. The Nationals started the week with a heartbreaking 6-3 loss to the New York Mets. What made it difficult was that the loss went to starting pitcher Liván Hernandez, who ma...

Mike Piazza: A Spiritual Man
Posted on 27 Jun 2011 by Jim Mancari.
At a recent golf outing benefiting the Brooklyn/Queens CYO athletic program, I was lucky enough to meet and interview the legendary Mike Piazza. Not only was he a great baseball player, but he is an even nicer person. As Mets fans, we will always remember Piazza for his on-field achievements such as leading the team to the 2000 World Series, hitting a memorable home run after 9/11 and passing C...

White Sox Swing Around the Diamondbacks
Posted on 21 Jun 2011 by Matthew Hesse.
Arizona lost another series this weekend, this time against the Chicago White Sox and now it is clear the Diamondbacks need pitching help. Daniel Hudson pitched a complete game in the Diamondbacks win Friday night. On Friday, the Diamondbacks got off to a great start with a 4-1 victory. Daniel Hudson led the way pitching a complete game allowing only 3 hits and only one run. Justin Upton le...

Angels bring out the heavy Met-al today in New York
Posted on 20 Jun 2011 by Bill Mahoney.
I said I expected the Angels to sweep the Mets. They did take two of three, and that ain't bad. Did I say that, or did Meat Loaf say it? They don't do it much, but the Angels got good pitching and good hitting on the same day. Being a rookie, Tyler Chatwood can't say anything, but I bet he was frustrated that the Angels couldn't score any runs for him of late. How many runs have the Halos put ...

Mets Earn Series-Opening Win against Braves
Posted on 14 Jun 2011 by Jim Mancari.
The New York Mets hung on late for a rare road win at Turner Field against the Atlanta Braves, 4-3, to take the opening game of this three-game midweek series. The Mets are back to a game under .500 as they continue their string of strong starting pitching performances. Jonathan Niese was quite good, allowing just two runs on five hits—only one of which was an extra-base hit—in 6.1 innings ...

Arizona Slows Down at Home
Posted on 6 Jun 2011 by Matthew Hesse.
The Diamondbacks have now won 18 of their last 23 games. This incredible run has the Diamondbacks only half a game behind the San Francisco Giants. However, 3 of those losses have come at home in the past week, with 2 against the Nationals during their 4 game series. The Diamondbacks lost Thursday 6-1 after Zach Duke’s second start of the season. Jordan Zimmerman of the Nationals ...

External Options for Upgrading the A’s Offense
Posted on 29 May 2011 by Josh Muller.
Last week I discussed some in-house options for the A’s struggling offense and highlighted the prospects that I think would fulfill the biggest need for the big club. While graduating some minor leaguers might be the quickest and easiest solution to the A’s offensive woes, you can be sure Billy Beane and the A’s are exploring any and every avenue with which to improve the team. In fact I ...
