This could be a long shortened season for the Caps
Posted on 22 Jan 2013 by Brendan Keelan.
Three nights after being embarassed in the opening game 6-3 by Tampa Bay the Caps did not seem to do much better tonight as they drop their home opener to the Winnipeg Jets 4-2. The loss tonight ended a streak of ten straight home opener wins for the Caps. It also marks the Caps fourth straight loss to the Jets dating back to last season. The Capitals are simply not playing good hockey to start...

Lights go out on Broadway’s Season as Capitals Beat Rangers 3-1
Posted on 23 Apr 2011 by Margaret DeJesus.
Carpe diem — the Latin phrase meaning seize the day — was the answer the New York Rangers so desperately needed to advance in the playoffs. Their series with the number one seed Washington Capitals was also a series of moments and mistakes. Seize the moment, take the series. The Caps did just that as they went on to win 3-1 this afternoon in Game Five at the Verizon Center. Brian Bo...

Caps skate past Islanders 2-1
Posted on 21 Jan 2011 by Dave Thomas.
If the New York Islanders were looking for a signature win Thursday evening on Long Island, they didn't get it. Alex Ovechkin assisted on goals by Jason Chimera and Nicklas Backstrom, and rookie Braden Holtby turned away 24 shots as the Washington Capitals skated to a 2-1 win over their hosts at Nassau Coliseum. Washington Capitals' Nicklas Backstrom (19), Jason Chimera, second from left, S...

Devils Come Out Flying, Hedberg Stones Caps
Posted on 22 Nov 2010 by Matt Pellicane.
The New Jersey Devils were full of energy from the drop of the puck tonight. The Devils offense erupted for five goals and Johan Hedberg was excellent between the pipes as the Devils beat the Washington Capitals 5-0 Monday night. This is exactly the type of performance the Devils needed to establish a building block for the next few games that lie ahead. The fact that it came against the ...

Wild Attempt to Regain Momentum In Home Opener
Posted on 14 Oct 2010 by Shawn Stenhouse.
In all likelihood, the Wilds' double header season opener wasn't quite the home coming that native Finns, Koivu, Miettinen and Backstrom were hoping for. The Wild seemed to be in control for the first period of their opener, registering the first goal of the season by winger Guillaume Latendresse on an excellent play from capt. Mikko Koivu. Unfortunately, they lost control in the second, lettin...

Fantasy NHL: Week 2 Hot and Cold Players
Posted on 13 Oct 2010 by Brandon Galvin.
Hot Center Derek Roy, BUF Roy is plus two and currently leads all centers with four goals scored. He also has 10 shots on goal, which is tied for fourth. He has added one assist. Look for Roy to shoot plenty for the Sabres the entire season. I would expect Roy’s assist totals to increase sooner than later en route to a career high with two talented young wingers beside him. Left Wing Alexan...

The NHL Top 10 Nominees At Each Position Are……
Posted on 29 Jul 2010 by Trent Kondo.
This is just a summary of what I feel are the top 10 players in each category in the NHL to date. Sure there will be many arguments for and against what I have inserted here but let's take a look at what I have and see if we agree. Center: Sidney Crosby- should not be any argument here, the “kid” is hands down the best center and possibly the player in the game today. Pavel Datsyuk-...

who is “Hart” worthy?
Posted on 3 May 2010 by Amit Mann.
The three-headed monster of the MVP race in the NHL breaks down with Sidney Crosby of Pittsburgh Penguins, Alexander Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and Henrik Sedin of the Vancouver Canucks battling it out for the reign as the league's most valuable player. Notice the exclusion of either Ryan Miller or Ilya Bryzgalov on the ballot which in my opinion, is just wrong. Anyways, the votes are ...

Would You Do This Trade?
Posted on 30 Apr 2010 by Shane Hoopfer.
Short little blog, but I picked up on another conversation that didn't make sense to me but this does. So I ask you (would especially like to hear from the Capitals bloggers) would you trade Miikka Kiprusoff to Washington for Nicklas Backstrom? I don't think either team would have the stones to pull of a deal like this but in a hypothetical world I like the deal for both teams. What do you thin...

Through the Looking Glass to July 1 – Assessing the Market for Goalies
Posted on 3 Apr 2010 by Corey Krakower.
In the second of three segments previewing the offseason UFA market, this week’s edition will look at the goaltending depth of each team heading into the summer, and what each team’s expected plan of attack will be. Note that it was assumed that every RFA will re-sign, which obviously won’t be the case; and when identifying top prospects, only those deemed to be close to NHL ready were li...

Capital Gains
Posted on 2 Oct 2009 by Jim Mulligan.
B's start fast but Caps take control The Bruins had a good start to the game. On the very first shift, the Savard line came out and put good pressure on the Caps. After an early, acrobatic goalmouth save Jose Theodore lost his stick and the Bruins were able to sustain enough pressure in the Washington zone to make a full line change. The Bergeron line continued to force the Caps to play de...
