NORTHWESTERN LOOKS FOR 6-0 START IN PRIMETIME AGAINST PURDUE
Posted on 7 Oct 2010 by Ben Chiswick.
Last Saturday’s win at Minnesota may have been a squeaker, but the Northwestern Wildcats (5-0, 1-0) now find themselves one victory away from that potential 6-0 start we have been talking about for weeks. Not only that, but the ‘Cats have clawed their way into the USA Today/Coaches Poll at No. 25. A win this weekend could also land them in the AP Top 25 Poll, where they received 25 votes la...

‘CATS DODGE BULLET IN MINNESOTA, WIN BIG TEN OPENER
Posted on 3 Oct 2010 by Ben Chiswick.
Northwestern football fans could not have asked for a better way to kick off the 2010 Big Ten schedule, battling back from a late deficit to gut out a 29-28 win and improve to 5-0. I know, I know… The Wildcats struggled against a Minnesota team that may not win a home game this season. They lost the turnover battle for the first time all year, giving the ball away three times – twice inside...

NORTHWESTERN LOOKS TO CRASH HOMECOMING IN MINNESOTA’S NEW HOT SPOT

A brand new season begins on Saturday, and the Northwestern Wildcats (4-0) will be spending it with an old friend in a new house. Big Ten play opens this weekend, where the undefeated Wildcats visit the struggling Minnesota Golden Gophers (1-3) at the brand new TCF Bank Stadium right in the heart of campus. While the Twins more famously left the old Metrodome for Target Field, the Gophers found...

The Spread hangover
Posted on 28 Sep 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
A lot of teams across the country right now in college football runs some short of the spread offense. Some may want to pass out of it more, some may want to run out of it more, but you see some short of spread offense way more then you don't. The I-formation seems to be a lost art. Having a full back, having a special package once you get near the goal line or in short yardage. CMU is one of t...

DON’T LOOK NOW, BUT THE WILDCATS ARE GAINING STEAM
Posted on 27 Sep 2010 by Ben Chiswick.
Pat Fitzgerald is the man. On Saturday, the Northwestern Wildcats finished the non-conference portion of their schedule at 4-0 after beating a good Central Michigan team, 30-25, at Ryan Field. Listening to the coaches and players after the game, you would have thought they had just escaped some kind of upset threat from Northwest Central Mississippi A&M. True, Saturday’s win was a sloppy ...

Points left on the field
Posted on 26 Sep 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
When playing a good team you need to take advantage of ever chance you get, and you can not leave points on the field. CMU lost a tough game to Northwestern on Saturday 30-25 where they missed two PATs and a FG. They also had two interceptions and lost a fumble. For their part Northwestern didn't look too sharp early either, having 5 flags thrown on them early in the first quarter and turnovers...

Chippewa’s face another road test
Posted on 23 Sep 2010 by Steve Schwanda.
CMU has won their last two games against Big Ten teams, MSU last year, Indiana the year before, but on Saturday they travel to Northwestern and face a 3-0 Wildcat team that has already gone on the road twice, at Vandy and at Rice, which is very uncommon so early in the year for a BCS team. This will be CMU's last road game of a three game road trip as the Chippewa's finally return home Octobe...

‘CATS LOOK TO STAY PERFECT IN NON-CONFERENCE FINALE
Posted on 22 Sep 2010 by Ben Chiswick.
With conference play just 10 days away, the Northwestern Wildcats head into their final non-conference game with a chance to take a 4-0 record into Big Ten action. Fittingly, their biggest test yet should come on Saturday in the first home game since school resumed in Evanston. The Central Michigan Chippewas (2-1) may not play in a power conference, but they are a perennial power in one of the ...

‘CATS MAKE IT 3-0 WITH ROMP AT RICE
Posted on 21 Sep 2010 by Ben Chiswick.
Don’t look now, but the Northwestern Wildcats (3-0) are rolling. Week 1 was a true challenge, but Northwestern snuck out of Vanderbilt with a 23-21 primetime win over an SEC opponent. Week 2 was more of a scrimmage, as the Wildcats were able to work on their shortcomings during the Vanderbilt game and turn them into a 37-3 win over Illinois State. Heading into another night game under the lig...

NORTHWESTERN LOOKS FOR 3-0 START AGAINST RUN-HAPPY RICE
Posted on 17 Sep 2010 by Ben Chiswick.
Saturday should be a fun game for the Northwestern Wildcats. For starters, they will be playing their second night game in three weeks when they take on the Rice Owls in Houston on Saturday evening. Also, after using last week’s Illinois State game to work out some kinks, Rice should be a good test to see how the ‘Cats respond to stiffer competition. While Rice may not be a top-tier program...

RUNNING ROUGH-TROD ON THE REDBIRDS
Posted on 15 Sep 2010 by Ben Chiswick.
That was fun… now, back to reality. The Northwestern Wildcats enjoyed a cakewalk on Saturday, blowing out the Illinois State Redbirds, 37-3, in the home-opener at Ryan Field. It was a good time for a cream puff opponent. After eeking out a 23-21 win over Vanderbilt in Week 1, a number of weaknesses were apparent in the Wildcats’ game. Week 2 offered a great opportunity for Northwestern to w...

The home-opener is upon us! In just a matter of hours, football will return to Evanston. The line out of Mustard’s Last Stand will once again be overflowing onto Central Street. All will be right with the world. After last week’s hard-fought 23-21 win over SEC-member Vanderbilt, the Northwestern Wildcats will set their sights a bit lower this Saturday as in-state rival Illinois State comes ...
