Eagles-Cardinals: Too Late For 7-1?
Posted on 12 Nov 2011 by Christopher Rowe.
There was a time when the St. Louis and then newly relocated Phoenix Cardinals were in the same division as the Eagles, Giants, Cowboys and Redskins – the old NFC East. Dating back to their days in Chicago, the Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles had never really been rivals as the two teams were never competitive at the same time. More accurately the Cardinals franchise was not all that compet...

DeVan 53rd Eagle

Imagine if you will the Eagles locker room. As the NFL regular season nears, the temporary lockers at NovaCare Complex to accommodate the overflow of a training camp roster are being removed and now resembles more of the “normalcy” to accommodate a 53-man roster. The final roster cut-down weekend removed 18 hopeful players including DT Cedric Thornton. Poor Thornton made it safely through S...

DE Logjam in Nest

During the prolonged offseason and lockout, there were many questions facing the Eagles braintrust. Fans expressed concern over the secondary, which was blamed for losing in the playoffs to Green Bay – and which also garnered Philadelphia the worst red zone defense rating in the NFL over the past 30 years. To put that into perspective, that would be right around the time when Bill Bergey, Dic...

Babin on Board
Posted on 28 Jul 2011 by Christopher Rowe.
The Philadelphia Eagles have reached agreement on a five-year contract with Pro Bowl defensive end Jason Babin, who had a breakout season with Tennessee last year and who two years ago was allowed to leave Philadelphia for free agency. Babin played for the Eagles in 2009 then signed with the Titans in free agency and had a career-best 12.5 sacks playing under defensive line coach Jim Washburn. ...

Great Green and White Hope

The Eagles have agreed to contract terms with Canadian Football League export defensive end Phillip Hunt. Hopefully Hunt proves as effective as Cameron Wake (Dolphins signed Wake out of the CFL after a sack binge north of the border). Hunt led the CFL with 16 sacks for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2010. That's the good news. Also good news is that Hunt is only 25 years old and is happy to ret...

Bombers/Argos Preview
Posted on 17 Sep 2010 by Jim Penner.
Early Sunday afternoon, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers take on the Toronto Argonauts at the Roger Centre Skydome. The Blue Bombers, with a 3-7 record, come into the game after an uplifting win against Saskatchewan last Sunday. The Argos, 5-5, carry a three game losing streak having last lost in BC. A win by the Bombers keeps them in the Eastern playoff picture and gives them a chance to win th...

Bombers Shut Down Riders Offense with 31-2 Win
Posted on 12 Sep 2010 by Jim Penner.
The consensus around the league is that the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are a better team than their record of 3-7 would indicate. Sunday afternoon against the Saskatchewan Roughriders they came out with a blazing intensity that would stake them to a 17-0 lead early in the 2nd quarter. The house was full as the Bombers would finish off the game by dominating the Riders to the final tune of a 31-2...

Bombers Defense …. Is it too Inexperienced?
Posted on 17 Aug 2010 by Jim Penner.
I’ve been thinking about this for a couple of days now. I really shouldn’t be surprised at the 2-5 record of the 2010 Winnipeg Blue Bombers. We’ve got a rookie head coach with a couple of rookie offensive and defensive coordinators. On the defensive side of the ball we have only three regular players who have started games in the CFL for more than a year and a half. Let me explain a...
