STARS SUMMER PLAYBOOK
Posted on 30 Jun 2011 by Travis Currie.
This could be one of the more active off-seasons in recent years for the Stars. First a new coach in Glen Gulutzan, fingers crossed on good news on the ownership front, and GM Joe will actually be forced to be somewhat of a player in the free agent market. Not that he's rolling through downtown Dallas with the top down screaming out “Money aint a thang!', to quote Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri...

My take on Georgia’s eligibility issues
Posted on 28 Jun 2011 by Brenden Hull.
Like many other schools in the NCAA, Georgia now has several players who are facing investigation and possible suspension for receiving improper benefits. The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer has reported that Jarvis Jones and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope allegedly received financial assistance from a local parks and recreation department, according to police documents obtained by the newspaper. Jones is a...

Baseball’s Midseason Awards
Posted on 27 Jun 2011 by Michael Waterloo.
It seems like just yesterday I was typing up my preseason predictions for the upcoming baseball season. It's hard to believe that we are already at the halfway point. Who says that the baseball season is too long? As per usual with baseball, this season is full of unpredictability and surprises. We've seen two no-hitters within one week to make this the year of the pitcher 2.0, a home ...

The Case for Enes Kanter as the Number 1 Pick
Posted on 12 Jun 2011 by Jonathan Wasserman.
Despite Kyrie Irving's promise as a point guard and Derrick William's productive college career, the mysterious Enes Kanter might pack the most reward as the number 1 pick. Kanter has willingly worked out against competition perceived as “inferior”, while many American prospects shy away from such situations with the fear of a bad day. Considering his infamous 34 and 13 game at the ...

Vancouver One Win Away From Stanley Cup
Posted on 11 Jun 2011 by Kevin Kelly.
Maxim Lapierre scored the only goal of the game early in the third period and Roberto Luongo stopped all of Boston’s 31 shots as Vancouver won Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final 1-0. Luongo had a big bounce back game in earning his fourth shutout of the playoffs. Vancouver will have a chance to win their first Stanley Cup on Monday on the road in Boston. The Boston Bruins had a golden oppo...

It’s About That Time Again
Posted on 10 Jun 2011 by David Willow.
For those hardcore fantasy players out there, it is about that time again. Fantasy sites are open again for league creations, and though the lockout is still on with no solid lead as to when it will end people are still signing up. As we should. All in all it stands to reason that there is too much money across the boards for the to not be a season, players are organizing their own team drills ...

Comeback Kids Fall Short in Game 3
Posted on 7 Jun 2011 by Andy R Strom.
Game 3 felt a lot like game 2 except that the Mavs fell 2 points short of the Heat. Dallas did cut down on the turnovers and rebounded better than in game 2, but it wasn’t enough to get the win. The Mavs played from behind most of the game again and went on one of their 4th quarter comebacks that we are so accustomed to by now. The absence of Haywood was a big blow to the Mavs defensive and r...

Tribe goes 3-3 on road, back on their feet
Posted on 3 Jun 2011 by Bradley Ross.
I almost pushed the panic button last week even though I said there was no need to. I got a bit worried once they dropped a game 11-1 against Toronto, a team I thought we should beat. which put us 1-5 in the past 6 games at that point. However, the team has found its feet again thanks to a couple of nice arrivals by players finally coming around from injury. (more…)

Atlanta Thrashers, RIP
Posted on 31 May 2011 by John Morgo.
(I'll take Mangled Shakespearean Phrases for $400, Alex.) I have come not to praise the Atlanta Spirit, but to bury them. As has been widely reported all across any sport news source, the Atlanta Thrashers are currently being packed up by a cut-rate moving outfit and being shipped to Winnipeg to become the Manitoba Moose (The Winnipeg Jets are permanently grounded {for now} in Phoenix). Before ...

Canucks Advance To Finals With Unusual Goal
Posted on 25 May 2011 by Kevin Kelly.
Kevin Bieksa scored a strange goal in the second overtime and eliminated the San Jose Sharks sending the Vancouver Canucks to the Stanley Cup Finals. Vancouver who defeated San Jose 3-2 has not made it to the Stanley Cup Final for 17 years when they defeated Toronto also in overtime in 1994. They will now wait to see if they will play Boston or Tampa Bay for the Stanley Cup. The first pe...

Dirk is Definition of Consistent, Mavs Take Game 1 of West Finals
Posted on 18 May 2011 by Andy R Strom.
The Dallas Mavericks came into Tuesday’s game with eight days of rest since knocking off the defending champ LA Lakers in four games. The Thunder on the other hand, had to turn the corner quickly after just finishing their previous series with Memphis in game 7 on Sunday. Leading up to the game most of the talk centered on the rest vs. rust factor for Dallas and how the youth vs. veteran angl...

Nonsensical Hockey League – 3 Things That Make Me Go ?????
Posted on 16 May 2011 by Kirk Butler.
Well I do have to admit.. considering who is really in charge (Gary Bettman & Owners) it doesn't surprise me when with regular frequency a new rule or addendum the NHL approves make absolutely no sense to me. So as a result I have decided to start a new regular Blog called: Nonsensical Hockey League. The frequency with which this blog will be posted all depends on Bettman and others i...
