Giants Get Mini-Swept in Toronto
Posted on 16 May 2013 by Daniel Trucios.
It was a rough couple of days for the Champs north of the border. Poor fielding was theme early again for the San Francisco Giants (23-17) as a couple of errors helped fuel a 5-run first inning for the Toronto Blue Jays (17-24). The Jays would then tack on 5 more runs over the following 2 innings making 10-1 by the end of the 3rd. The Blue Jays would go onto win by a final of 11-3. Last night's...

MLB ’12: Year of the Skipper
Posted on 8 Oct 2012 by Steven Keys.
Whine-fest ‘12 Baseball’s celebratory red, white & blue banners still had creases in ‘em Friday night when one of its post-season entrants was quickly bounced from the festivities amid another firestorm of controversy surrounding game-officiating. This time it was MLB umpires, not referees, in the media cross-hairs getting lambasted after the Cardinals – Braves one & done, w...

Playoff Push Belies MLB Grind

The ‘dog days’ of summer have arrived. The genesis of that phrase? I haven’t a clue. To tell ya’ the truth, sometimes I just don’t want to know the answer. Call it Information Age burn-out. Suffice to say, ‘dog days’ feels apropos come late July. It’s that time in baseball when the pep & vigor of spring has vanished like a cool summer breeze. Players, managers and umpires st...

Done in Miami For Now – Good Riddance!
Posted on 17 Jul 2012 by Marien Hornyak.
The Washington Nationals just ended a four-game series in Miami, where they took 2 of 4 games from the Marlins. The first-place Nationals are 4-5 against the fish, and still have 8 games left to play against them this season. The Marlins played “small ball” and were quite successful, bunting runners over to prevent double plays and implementing the suicide squeeze. Now the Natio...

No-Hitters, No Wonder
Posted on 23 Jun 2012 by Steven Keys.
Everybody’s talkin’ (Nilsson), ‘bout LeBron, R.A. Dickey and no-hitters. While Kevin Durant’s Finals fade is fodder for debate, not much more worthwhile to write about His Magnitude, Mr. James until the leaves start to turn. As for the plethora of pitching gems, theories abound. Next time you go to the ballpark, better hold on to that ticket stub for you could be in possession of a litt...

Dickey also recorded a new record thirteen strikeouts against the O's. Twenty-four of the twenty-seven outs for the Orioles came were either caused by a strikeout or a groundout. The O's only managed to hit the ball out of the infield three times...

From The Stretch: Some quick thoughts on Cain’s Perfect Game
Posted on 14 Jun 2012 by Connor Callaghan.
The first perfect game in the history of the Giants Well what a night to start. I'm still trying to digest what I just saw. Where do I even begin when every Giants fan was watching this game so intently? Well when I started watching the game and got a couple innings in, I thought it would be all about the Giants offense. Let's see, we scored two in the first, then three in the second, and anoth...

David Wright goes cold as Mets squeeze by Pirates
Posted on 22 May 2012 by Aryn Ouellette.
Tuesday night's game between the New York Mets and Pittsburgh Pirates wasn't kind to third basemen, David Wright. Wright, who has been on fire since the season has begun, went 0-4, with three strike outs in the Mets win. Scoring started in the second inning when Mets catcher, Mike Nickeas singled, scoring Daniel Murphy. Pirates center fielder Andrew McCutchen, who went 2-4, tied the game up...

Are Two-Year Deals Too Much for Takahashi and Dickey?
Posted on 2 Nov 2010 by Jim Mancari.
Two of the bright spot from an otherwise bleak 2010 Mets squad were pitchers Hisanori Takahashi and Robert Alan Dickey. Both are free-agent eligible, with the deadline to negotiate with Takahashi fast approaching. When the Mets signed Takahashi, they didn't really know what they were going to get from the Japanese lefty. However, he pitched so well in spring training that the Mets had to ca...

R.A. Dickey: New York Mets Version of ‘Buried Treasure’ Defeats Pirates
Posted on 15 Sep 2010 by Jim Mancari.
Home runs, clutch hits, and complete-game victories. All have been lacking this year for the New York Mets thus leading to their sub-.500 record. However, in last night's win over the Pirates, we saw a little of each for a rare time this season. R.A. Dickey threw a complete game (his second of the year) to earn his eleventh victory of the season, a new career high. The only run he gave up ...

R.A. Dickey Snake-Bitten by a Pair of 3-Run Homers
Posted on 3 Sep 2010 by Jim Mancari.
Even when the Mets’ bats finally wake up, they still lose. This afternoon against the Cubs, the team scored six runs, something they hadn’t done since August 24, but still could not earn the victory. The Mets jumped out to an early lead with a David Wright two RBI double in the top of the first off Randy Wells. They added another run on a botched double play off the bat of Joaquin Arias to ...
