Paint the Town Orange: A view from the stands of the Rutgers-Syracuse game
Posted on 14 Nov 2010 by Beth Ann Clyde.
Don't call us spoiled or bandwagoners. We went to SU from 2005-09 and are proud survivors of the GROB era. “Hey everybody! Syracuse is awesome!” shouted a young Syracuse fan on his way out of Rutgers Stadium this evening. It was a rare display of innocence as Orange and Scarlet Knights fans engaged in your typical, semi-hostile, oft-profanity-laced post game back-and-forth on their way...

Scarlet Knights Looking to Squeeze Orange: Rutgers vs. Syracuse Preview
Posted on 12 Nov 2010 by Chris Ryan.
It has been a trying season on and off the field for the Rutgers football team. The Scarlet Knights (1-2 Big East, 4-4 overall) had the emotions of the tragic injury to Eric LeGrand weeks ago and have not gotten it done in the late moments of games. They look to stop the surging Syracuse team (3-2, 6-3) in order to have any chance of getting a bowl game invite. Chas Dodd, the young quarterba...

One win away from bowl eligibility
Posted on 31 Oct 2010 by Donald Lappe.
With a 29-7 win over VMI, Army has moved within one victory of becoming bowl eligible for the first time since 1996. Army opened the day's scoring at Michie Stadium with a 1 yard Trent Steelman touchdown run. The score began a string of 19 unanswered points to start the game for the Black Knights that included a Jared Hassin 38-yard touchdown run, and Alex Carlton field goal, and a safety. VMI ...

Army vs VMI
Posted on 28 Oct 2010 by Donald Lappe.
When and Where: 12 p.m. at Michie Stadium in West Point, N.Y. Series History: 13-1 in favor of Army Matchup: Army is 4-3, coming off a tough loss to Rutgers. VMI is 3-4, including some blowout losses at the FCS level. Army is eighth in the nation in rushing, sporting a balanced attack so far this season. The VMI defense is ranked 25th in the FCS against the run, but I still expect Army to find ...

Anyone’s Guess for 2010 Eagles
Posted on 23 Oct 2010 by Christopher Rowe.
Does anyone really have a clue what is happening with the Philadelphia Eagles? They lose when they should win, they win when they should lose. Their offensive line leaks live a sieve and then plays a solid game with patchwork players. Their defense is suspect one week and then devastating the following week. Heading into Week 7 of the NFL season, there is no way to tell whether the Eagles are e...

LeGrande Paralyzed as Rutgers Holds their Collective Breath
Posted on 19 Oct 2010 by Chris Ryan.
Last Saturday, there was little to celebrate for Rutgers in their 23-20 victory over Army at the New Meadowlands Stadium. The game took a back seat with 5:10 to go in regulation when defensive tackle Eric LeGrande was paralyzed after attempting to tackle an Army player. He was rushed to the ICU at Hackensack University Medical Center where he had emergency surgery to stabilize his spinal cor...

OT loss drops Army to 4-3
Posted on 17 Oct 2010 by Donald Lappe.
For the third time this season, Army was able to steal defeat from the jaws of victory. Army has not been a good fourth quarter team this year, and they proved it again Saturday. Bad penalties have also become a disturbing trend for this team. Army opened the day's scoring with 2:45 remaining in the first quarter on a 3-yard Trent Steelman touchdown run, part of another big performance from the...

The only common opponent is Tulane, but Rutgers looked like a much improved team last week, not a team that lost 17-14 to the Green Wave. Rutgers will start Chas Dodd at quarterback against Army. It is imperative that the...

Army football midseason report card
Posted on 14 Oct 2010 by Donald Lappe.
After six games, the Army football team sits at 4-2, which is very similar to what I had envisioned prior to the season. There have been some surprises, however. This team could easily be 6-0. I thought they would struggle against Hawaii, but they outplayed the Warriors up until an untimely fumble by backup quarterback Max Jenkins ended the drive to set up the game-winning field goal attempt. T...

Posted on 23 Sep 2010 by Chris Ryan.
While Rutgers prepares to continue their winning momentum this season against a tough North Carolina team on Saturday, the team is already preparing to play in a championship environment in the next few years. The Scarlet Knights and Miami University are close to agreeing on a showdown in 2013 at Yankee Stadium for a clash of former Big East rivals. The schools have met 11 times, with Miami...

Rutgers Week 3 Pre-Game Report: Vs. North Carolina
Posted on 16 Sep 2010 by Chris Ryan.
Despite starting out 2-0 this year, Rutgers has more questions than answers as it approaches their third game against North Carolina. The Scarlet Knights had a tough time in their 19-14 victory over Florida International last Saturday. They got the victory, but was clearly struggling and out-performed throughout. The Panthers dominated in overall yardage (371 to 172), forced the Knights...
