Possible Kings Trade Targets
Posted on 1 Feb 2012 by Eric Cooney.
Let's be honest, as Kings fans we all want to be buyers at the deadline, and not Fredrik Modin/Jeff Halpern buyers. We want to be big time buyers. Like, what-we-all-expected-Dustin-Penner-to-be buyers. We all know the Kings could use some offense, yet it's not always so easy to tell what Lombardi is going to do when it comes to acquiring players. However, if you twisted my arm I'd wager...

Lombardi Files Grievance
Posted on 30 Jul 2011 by Eric Cooney.
After weeks (months?) of Lombardi trying to work something out without making this an official league issue, Lombardi has gone to his last resort, filing a grievance with the NHL. Lombardi's beef is with Steve Tambellini of the Edmonton Oilers over the Ryan Smyth trade. First, Tambellini tried to trade Gilbert Brule to the Kings despite the fact that doctors deemed Brule unfit to play. Tha...

Oilers Summer Playbook: In a word “Depth”; Souray placed on waivers today
Posted on 30 Jun 2011 by Scott Pattison.
In a word, the NHL’s 2011 UFA Day will undoubtedly be about “depth” for the Edmonton Oilers, specifically the potential for locking up a solid third or fourth line special teams’ player with a strong face-off record, as well as a punishing blueliner. On the heels of selecting Red Deer Rebels’ centre, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins with the first overall pick at the NHL draft for the second conse...

All the latest NHL News & Trade Rumors
Posted on 24 Jun 2011 by Corey Krakower.
It sure seems like the NHL draft is the new trade deadline! 2 blockbuster deals were completed that rocked the hockey world today; one of which was Jeff Carter being dealt to Columbus; while the other seeing top prospect Brayden Schenn and rising star Wayne Simmonds traded from LA to Philadelphia in exchange for Mike Richards. While those are monster deals, the most plugged in hockey insiders a...

Kings Swap Schenn, Simmonds for Mike Richards
Posted on 23 Jun 2011 by Eric Cooney.
Dean Lombardi stepped out in a big way today, trading top prospect Brayden Schenn and gritty winger Wayne Simmonds to Philadelphia for top center Mike Richards. The trade comes as a surprise to Kings fans who have heard Schenn and Simmonds names bandied about as trade bait time and again, but never anything of substance. While Kings fans anticipated the trade of Ryan Smyth, this move comes ...

Smyth-tacular, Quick-tastic
Posted on 3 Feb 2011 by Eric Cooney.
Don't let Edmonton's record fool you. This isn't the Edmonton that we're used to since their epic run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2006. That was the last time the Oilers were in the playoffs, but this team has some new energy. They look like they're a few pieces away from being a solid threat. Most of this is thanks to the draft where they've acquired guys like Hall, Eberle, and Paajarv...

Topping the Kings
Posted on 16 Nov 2010 by Alex Wasserstrom.
The San Jose Sharks faced their biggest test of the season on Monday night when a Los Angeles Kings hockey club that had won 6 straight came in to town. I wouldn't give the Sharks an A+ in their 6-3 win, but an A-/B+ is well-deserving for what, I thought, was their most complete game to date and here's why: Response:In my last post, I talked about the success the Kings have enjoyed when scorin...

Kings Down Stars In Chippy Division Battle
Posted on 12 Nov 2010 by Eric Cooney.
When you go to a hockey game, you hope and pray for a game like the Kings played tonight. Chippy play, 4 fights, and a 3-1 victory over a division rival. The energy at this game was palpable and the Kings did not disappoint in front of a packed Staples Center crowd. Even the atmosphere after the game in front of Staples Center was raucous. (more…)

After starting their season without a defeat in regulation in 8 straight games, the Nashville Predators have since lost 3 straight and currently sit at the bottom of the Central Division. Even at that, they current are in 9th place in the West and only trail Chicago by 2 points with 4 less games played. (more…)

Kings Grind, Bounce To Win Over Thrash
Posted on 13 Oct 2010 by Eric Cooney.
Despite the emerging trend of not scoring in the 1st period and allowing the first goal, the Kings fought their way to a 3-1 win over the visiting Atlanta Thrashers. The Thrashers came into L.A. with a 1-1-0 record, their win coming against a tough Caps team. Not to mention that on the same night their starting keeper had a fainting spell and was carted off the ice. (more…)

Kings Rally, Beat Avs 4-2
Posted on 23 Sep 2010 by Eric Cooney.
The Kings faced off against a pretty strong Avs squad (at least by pre-season standards) and managed to shrug off a slow start to grab the comeback win. The Avalanche tallied in under 3 minutes, then again early in the 2nd to pull ahead by 2 goals. However, the Kings persistence paid off, netting them the last 4 goals in a row. (more…)
