Red Wings fall to Sharks in OT
Posted on 30 Apr 2011 by Kirk Butler.
The round 2 match-up between the Wings and Sharks got underway last night in an exciting fast paced game. The Wings had Franzen and Zetterberg back in the line-up just in time to take on a front loaded Sharks team. The 4 game sweep of the Coyotes was exactly what the doctor ordered for this Wings team as both injured players are big time players and will be needed at full capacity if the Red Wi...

Detroit vs San Jose Preview
Posted on 28 Apr 2011 by Kirk Butler.
With Game 1 set for Friday night it's time for the Detroit Red Wings to start removing the rust in preparation for their second round match-up the San Jose Sharks. These two teams have many similarities however their paths to this point were polar opposites. The Sharks required 6 games and 3 OT wins to eliminate a worthy Kings opponent while the Red Wings walked right over the Coyotes in 4 game...

Kings Bow Out in 6 Games
Posted on 26 Apr 2011 by Eric Cooney.
Here we are; the hardest blog of the year to write. It was certainly a rollercoaster for the Kings this year, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. It's always disappointing to lose, especially to a rival like the Sharks, but I must say I'm proud of the Kings' effort. No one thought they would put up a decent fight for the Sharks, but I think if you asked San Jose and their fans...

Lessons Learned from round 1 of the playoffs (so far)
Posted on 21 Apr 2011 by Mika Oehling.
It's still early in round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs and there's still a lot of hockey left to play before round 2 can begin. But let's take a quick look at some important lessons from this 2011 round 1. Don't Mess With: 1- Ryan Miller. This is one goaltender whom you should never question. First, because he really is that good. Second, because as he clearly articulated to the press recently...

After the Fall: Kings’ Next Step
Posted on 20 Apr 2011 by Eric Cooney.
I said last night that the Kings suffered the most devastating loss in their history in game 3 against the Sharks. Now, there's hope in that statement. Why, you ask? First, it wasn't the most devastating collapse in NHL history. In retrospect, it wasn't even the most devastating collapse I've witnessed in my hockey history. That would be Edmonton in game 1 of the 2006 Finals. Up 3-0...

A Loss of Character
Posted on 20 Apr 2011 by Eric Cooney.
I would rather the Kings have lost 10-0 than to lose the way they did in Game 3 of their series with the San Jose Sharks. Up 4-0 at the top of second period and the Kings suffered what will likely go down as the biggest meltdown in Kings history. Congratulations, you are a part of history, guys. (more…)

Kings vs. Sharks Now Best-of-5
Posted on 18 Apr 2011 by Eric Cooney.
I'm going to keep this short and sweet and just touch on a few points that stick out after the first two games in the Kings vs. Sharks series. The Kings are under a different microscope from every other team in the league, so the observations are largely coming from a place of tempered expectations. However, the Kings in many ways have exceeded even regular expectations! (Only some snark in...

Kings @ Sharks Game Day: Storylines
Posted on 14 Apr 2011 by Eric Cooney.
Today marks some mixed emotions for Kings fans, no doubt. The Kings have made the playoffs for consecutive years, which is a reason to be proud and excited. However, a lot of trepidation comes with the feat as well. With the Kings star center on the shelf, how will the team play? If it's anything like they did without him down the stretch, the series ahead won't be pretty. (more̷...

Sharks vs Kings – Series Preview
Posted on 12 Apr 2011 by Alex Wasserstrom.
It has been quite a season for the San Jose Sharks – from struggling to find consistency to surging into a 4th straight Pacific Division title. This team has a different make-up from Sharks teams of the past in the fact that there is a real sense of improvement as the season progressed. As noted in my season preview, I felt that if the Sharks had to battle for a higher seed, especially wi...

First Round Preview: Kings vs. Sharks
Posted on 11 Apr 2011 by Eric Cooney.
The Kings went from being the 4th team to clinch a seed in the West this season to a 7th seed heading into the post-season. Their fall from grace coincided pretty closely to the losses of top two scorers Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams. The Kings will have to make up for those losses with a full team effort against a really talented Sharks team. (more…)

Kings Shellacked by Sharks

The San Jose Sharks locked up another division title on Monday night, defeating the Kings 6-1. The Sharks are assured to enjoy a top 3 seed in this year's playoffs and the King will have to strive for 4th place if they want home advantage in the first round. (more…)

STARS OUTSHINE THE DUCKS
Posted on 4 Apr 2011 by KARLY TAMBARA.
After going blogless for the entire month of March, I’m finally posting again and there’s so much to blog about. I also think that by me watching the Ducks again, I might have sent bad luck their way. Prior to this weekend, the Ducks had won 7 of their last 8 games but are now on a two game losing streak to Pacific Division Rivals just when it counts the most. On Saturday, the Ducks fle...
