Chicago blows by the Blues, but the race remains wicked in the west
Posted on 21 Feb 2011 by Kelly Barrett.
The Hawks, from the Windy City, flew into St. Louis and left the Blues singing a sad tune. After a shootout win over the Penguins yesterday at home, Chicago hit the road and Blew by the Blues 5-3. The Blues scored the first and only two goals in the first period. They came out strong against Chicago, and it looked like the Hawks were going to have a long game. I don’t know what happ...

Lightning Trade Deadline Analysis: Pre and Post Brewer
Posted on 21 Feb 2011 by Christopher Tran.
**As I was working on this post, the Tampa Bay Lightning pulled the trigger on Eric Brewer from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for prospect D Brock Beukeboom and a third-round pick. The following are my predictions leading up to the deadline along with updated analysis. Written on 2/15/11 We haven’t seen GM Steve Yzerman work a trade deadline yet so it will be fascinating to see if he’ll...

Breaking Point
Posted on 27 Jan 2011 by Jason Wagensveld.
The Blue Jackets are sitting just 5 points out of a playoff spot at the All-Star Break. The only problem is they still have 4 teams to climb over top of in order to be in the 8th spot in the Western Conference. Their work is far from over. With a 3-1-2 record leading into the All-Star Break, the Blue Jackets are playing with plenty of confidence. They took 3 out of 4 points against the ...

McCreary Falls Asleep at the Winged Wheel
Posted on 21 Jan 2011 by Patrick McLellan.
Since writers get fined for criticizing the officiating in the NHL and I do not, I’ll take the liberty to point out a few things that won’t affect my wallet. Bill McCreary is the only NHL referee whose name you know for the right reasons, but after a game like last night’s game, that pendulum is starting to swing in the other direction. In last night’s game versus the Detroit Redwings, ...

Parity No Rarity
Posted on 9 Jan 2011 by Patrick McLellan.
If the Blues were to have won their game against the New York Rangers last night, they would be in fifth place in the Western Conference. Instead, they sit in 12th. 12th place is only one point behind the 8th and final playoff spot. The parity in the Western Conference is unbelievable this year. As Jim Morrison used to say; the West is the best. It couldn’t be truer. Yes, there are some great...

Former Islanders Captain Bill Guerin retired today after 18 NHL seasons. Guerin, 40, scored 429 goals during his 18 year career, which saw stops in 8 NHL cities. He broke in with the New Jersey Devils in the 1991-92 season, winning a Stanley Cup with the team in 1995. Guerin also played in Edmonton, Boston, Dallas, St. Louis, San Jose, New York with the Islanders, and Pittsburgh. Gueri...

Wings Trounce Blues, 7-3
Posted on 17 Nov 2010 by Jeremy Klumpp.
If hockey games lasted 52 minutes, the St. Louis Blues would have been heading to overtime with the Detroit Red Wings after a hard-fought, scrappy game. Unfortunately for them, they last 60 minutes. Danny Cleary broke a 3-3 tie, knocking a pass from Mike Modano past Blues goalie Jaroslav Halak, with 7:34 left in the third period. The Wings scored three more times in 3:14, with goals from Henrik...

Pregame: St. Louis Blues vs. Columbus Blue Jackets
Posted on 10 Nov 2010 by Jason Wagensveld.
The Columbus Blue Jackets are faced with a difficult challenge tonight as they face off against the first place St. Louis Blues at 7:00 pm at the Nationwide Arena. This is a game that the Jackets need to win in order to build their confidence as they have a tough month of November ahead of them. The line-up will stay the same tonight with the exception of their goalie as Steve Mason will ge...

Bruins forward David Krejci sustained a concussion during Saturday night’s game after getting hit by St. Louis Blues’ forward TJ Oshie. Oshie has an uncanny ability to throw a players weight against themselves when they’re lining him up for a hit. He did it to Chara Saturday night also and anyone can remember him thumping Columbus superstar forward Rick Nash multiple times. He’s been do...

Rask left singing the Blues
Posted on 7 Nov 2010 by Jim Mulligan.
Tuukka Rask got a rare, early season start tonight for the Bruins. Unfortunately, every time he's seen action, the Bruins have lost – including tonight. In the other end, it was Jaroslav Halak for St. Louis. If not for the “all world” start by Tim Thomas, Halak would be getting all the October accolades for NHL goaltenders. Coming off a sloppy effort in Washington last night...

Thornton Handed Two-Game Suspension
Posted on 5 Nov 2010 by Alex Wasserstrom.
Accompanied by the 2-0 loss, and second straight shutout against the Sharks, captain Joe Thornton was handed a two-game suspension for his hit on Blues' forward David Perron. Thornton was assessed a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for the hit and missed the final 35, or so, minutes of the game. Perron scored the Blues' second goal of the game about 10 minutes after the incident. For those ...
