Not one week ago I wrote a blog on how disappointing it was for a fan to, in an act of racial prejudice and taunting, throw a banana peel at Wayne Simmonds, an African-Canadian hockey player for the Philadelphia Flyers. It was an act that mirrored similar incidents in the past with black players. Georges Laraque alleges that Sean Avery once called him a “monkey”, a comment that ...

I'm half Chinese. The other day I was talking to a friend about the difference in perception of racist jokes depending on the target race. For instance, a racist joke against a black person might be met with, “Whoa dude, not cool.” Whereas a joke about an Asian person might be laughed at and not thought twice about. Part of this is because of the dark history of racial oppression an...

Dean Lombardi stepped out in a big way today, trading top prospect Brayden Schenn and gritty winger Wayne Simmonds to Philadelphia for top center Mike Richards. The trade comes as a surprise to Kings fans who have heard Schenn and Simmonds names bandied about as trade bait time and again, but never anything of substance. While Kings fans anticipated the trade of Ryan Smyth, this move comes ...

After 2 periods I looked at the shot count and had a hard time believing the Kings were up 2-0. The Red Wings led the Kings in shots on goal, 38-17. That wasn't a problem tonight though, because Quick stopped them all. (more…)

Lee Stempniak led the way with a hat-trick as the Phoenix Coyotes beat the Kings on Thursday night. A slow start for the Kings doomed them and they simply couldn't catch up. It's going to be a short post today but I just want to focus on a few things. (more…)

Although a team must perform as a whole, I'd like to break down expectations for each player this coming season. These are what I feel will be unspoken benchmarks the organization will expect each player to reach over a full season of play. To be completely clear, these are not predictions. Of course, injuries, suspensions, line-juggling, and all sorts of things happen that affect a players...

After years of patient rebuilding the Kings posted a successful regular season and a return to the playoffs. Although their post-season run ended short, the Kings have a lot to be optimistic about heading into the summer. (more…)

I would quote the rules of “Too Many Men on the Ice” for everyone, but we all know them. Sure, it stinks that the Canucks lost on a penalty in overtime, which aren't supposed to be called apparently. However, the Canucks player did touch the puck, intentional or not, and the right penalty was called. You can count that as 51% objective hockey fan and 49% Kings bias. (more…)

After being dealt to the Edmonton Oilers, Patrick O'Sullivan was confused and shocked. Before the game against Los Angeles on Tuesday night, O'Sullivan played 16 games with Edmonton scoring 1 goal, 4 assists, -6 rating and 12 penalty minutes. Although we can't judge the Williams-O'Sullivan-Cole trade until next season, once are 3 players go through their respective training ...
